Comments about Sterling Audio SP50/30 Studio Condenser Microphone Pack:

The old saying "You get what you pay for" is exactly true in this case. If budget is a serious concern then you do what you can with what you're able to get. But, if you're looking for some mics that you'll be keeping around for awhile go ahead and pass on this one. The 30 does not work well on acoustics. It's better than using an SM57 or something on your acoustic, but only just. The 50 isn't HORRIBLE, but it is very noisy and picks up even more background noise, so you'll end up with this constant hiss.

Overall, if you're just writing scratch tracks for songwriting purposes then sound quality isn't the biggest deal. You just need something to capture the audio in a somewhat accurate fashion. If you're wanting to make stuff to show off with then pass.

Bottom Line: If this is all you can afford it's better than not having mics at all. If you can manage to get something a little better and cleaner than I would do that. You'll be happier in the long run and much less frustrated.

Comments about Sterling Audio SP50/30 Studio Condenser Microphone Pack:

This mic is great for new home studios. It's cheap, and you get 2 mics for the price of one. You can make any mic sound good if you work long enough with it. It's better to know one mic very well and get a great sound from it, than to have lots of mics that you don't know how to use. It really doesn't matter what mic you pick, but learn how to make that one mic sound good and then it doesn't matter the brand. I chose these mics as my first mics because of the price. I can make them sound professional because I've spent a lot of time with them. Now make a decision on what mic you want to buy, buy it, then go make music!

Comments about Sterling Audio SP50/30 Studio Condenser Microphone Pack:

The SP50/30 Microphone pac is one of the best values I have found. I bought it as a "stupid deal of the day" and could not believe the quality received for the price paid. I did not have phantom power available but the price was low enough to justify the purchase of individual power units. They both perform very well and I feel fortunate to have had the purchase opportunity.

Comments about Sterling Audio SP50/30 Studio Condenser Microphone Pack:

I have found these mics to serve a very wide range of purposes. I Have been able to use the s50 for about 4 or 5 different instruments including a saxophone, which surprised me. Great for someone on a budget looking to capture some recordings to mess around with. The s30 just captures to much room and not enough focused instrument, so I've found it to work as an overhead for drums and that's about it.

Comments about Sterling Audio SP50/30 Studio Condenser Microphone Pack:

I am a gigging musician but fairly new to it. I bought this set about 2 years ago. I intended to use the pencil condenser for my guitar and resonator and the Lg one for vocals. They are both pretty sensitive and can be prone to boominess or feedback if improperly positioned. These are not like a dynamic mac like the venerable sm58 or sm57 and will not take much abuse but if you are careful with your equipment you won't have any issues.

There is a slight learning curve using when switching from dynamics to condenser mics but pretty easy to figure out - just make sure you have phantom power. My wife and I have used this to mic everything - banjo, two vocals and a guitar/resonator. This is tricky but can be pulled off. It is PERFECT for micing one person on vocals and guitar - you only really need one mic. You just have to play with the distance and angle to get the proper blend and be used to using playing dynamics.Nice set for the money IMHO.

Comments about Sterling Audio SP50/30 Studio Condenser Microphone Pack:

If your recording something loud where you won't have the gain up very high, then these mics will be okay for the job. But for your average vocalist/guitarist etc. the noise floor is just way too high. I can't get over the constant hiss. I thought it was a good package when I was getting started, but no. My advice is to save and buy something just a wee bit more expensive.
