OVERVIEW

A refreshed design of the popular Reveal series monitors.

The Tannoy Reveal 402 is the next step in the line of professional Reveal Series studio monitors. The powered Reveal 402 monitor's perfectly matched integrated amplifier ensures maximum efficiency and removes any need for a separate power amp. Response is optimized for near-field operation, such as on a meter bridge or on a table on either side of your control surface. Tannoy puts an Independent gain control on the rear panel, along with an HF trim control to allow fine tuning. Reveal 402 brings 67 years of tried-and-true legendary Tannoy sound to your personal studio in an ultra-compact form factor with pristine audio quality and a truly remarkable feature set.

Big Monitor Sound, Ultra-Compact Design
Don't be fooled by Reveal 402's compact size. Decades of experience in loudspeaker design and tweaking is the foundation for creating Reveal 402. The result is a massive soundscape generated by the super-efficient 4" woofer and ultra-precise 3„4" tweeter.

Expertly Voiced for Massive Sweet Spot
Custom tweaked by Tannoy's in-house speaker guru, Dr. Paul Mills, the active cross-over filters of Reveal 402 have absolutely impeccable timing. This produces the ultimate sweet spot so that you can move around in your workspace without losing the stereo imaging of your mix - as well as invite people to sit in with you during mixing sessions.

Easy Setup Option with Aux Link - Cable Included
If you're anything like us, you're not only working on mixes but also listening to your favorite music! Reveal gives you the ultimate pathway for both. With the Aux Link, setting up has never been easier. Use the included mini jack cable to plug into your favorite music player and link your monitors for an instant stereo setup - no need for external interfaces.

I purchased the Tannoy Reveal 402 speakers after demoing the Reveal 502, Yamaha HS5, and M Audio BX5a speakers. Both of the Tannoys outmatched the other two speakers by a wide margin, with a powerful, natural sound that revealed nuances lost with other speakers. I prefered the overall sound of the 502s - especially their deeper bass response - but they were a bit large for my editing desk so I went with the 402s.

The 402s are a perfect fit for my video editing studio in terms of size and sound and are a huge upgrade from my previous speakers. In terms of bass response the 402s are at least as good, if not better, than the larger BX5a and HS5 monitors and the overall sound clarity is like FM radio vs. CD.

The Tannoy 402 and 502 monitors are very close in price and I would strongly recommend the 502s if you have the space for them - especially for music production because the low bass response is significantly better.

Needed a pair of small workspace monitors, these seemed to fit the bill. They sound amazing when music is playing. But (even with the volume alllll the way down) they have an audible hiss. It is not obvious until you're sitting in the quiet, but it is definitely there and is distracting especially when mixing things like spoken word (I found myself feeling like I was going crazy, hearing this subtle high frequency hiss even after laying waste to the lowpass eq). So, probably would do a fine job as a bookshelf set, and if you're only mixing music it might be ok, but I'm returning these.

    Comments about Tannoy Reveal 402:

I've been using a pair of 402 for about 6 months. Recorded and mixed over 30 songs, published 7. These are great near field monitors. No problems with noise, no issues. I use them at low volumes for mixing, as well as higher volumes for sampling. With the right placement and acoustic treatment, it will sound as good as studio monitoring headphones. Very well balanced for pop, classic rock, modern rock, blues, R&B sounds. These are excellent for small mixing rooms. Not overkill with volume. The sound is not enhanced like Multimedia speaker. For optimal sound, use the balanced connectors.

Very good product. Didn't like the high hiss when you crank it up. Without wires too. I checked my equipment and I can't say that it isn't my equipment.

      Comments about Tannoy Reveal 402:

I use modern recording monitors for home audio playback. I used Yamaha NS10s for years back in the day when they were THE monitor. Replaced them with passive 8'' JBLs when technology moved on. When the JBL LSR305s came out I went to self powered and ditched my amp. (I love them too) Over a year ago I grabbed a pair of Tannoy 402s for the bedroom to replace a small Fostex rig. I'm loving them and just bought another pair as a gift. They fill a normal size room easily without taking up much space. They are very pleasing to look at and easy to set up with their flexible connection options. And I love the way they sound. Consumer 'hi-fi' gear is so much overpriced junk compared to gear like these and the LSRs.

Though the extra wattage over another brand would make more of a volume difference but it didn't. They are ok for what they are; book shelf speakers for a small room where you don't need any volume and require a streamlined set up (no receiver, amplifier etc...) I have a pair of PB42x Micca's connected to a Uturn turn table for a small room and bought one of these to test out and to connect to my phone to amplify songs off of you tube for solo practice sessions (covers). This speaker didn't seem to be much better and is bigger and has more wattage. Meh...

              Comments about Tannoy Reveal 402:

I use two of these with my iPhone as a simple home music system. The cable link for stereo couldn't be easier. Of course they're monitors, not really hi-fi speakers, so the sound is crisp and clear but not terribly strong on bass. They actually cost less than most of the nicer portable amplified speakers, but those usually offer Bluetooth, so the choice would come down to your needs.
The secret weapon, though, for these monitors, is how easy it is to plug in a mic or guitar interface and have an instant concert.
              I'm very satisfied.
