OVERVIEW

Pro features and sound at an easy price!

Designed by the same team that produced Mackie's best-selling compact active loudspeakers, the Thump TH-15A Active Loudspeaker provides amazingly accurate response from 20kHz down to 40Hz, giving it just the right amount of punch.

Exceptional Sonic Performance

TH-15A Active loudspeakers put out a tremendous amount of sound for their size and price tag. The two-way bass reflex (ported) design generates ample quantities of chest-pounding bass, and its 1" compression driver ensures smooth, wide dispersion. There is even a 3-band equalizer at the input to give you all the tonal control you could ever want, with an available 15dB boost or cut at 80Hz (for the lows), 100Hz to 8kHz (sweepable mids) and 12kHz (for the highs). With the TH-15A speaker's extremely versatile EQ, you can add some extra thump to that kick drum, bring out the sizzle in your hi-hats and add pop to vocals.

More Than Just a Powered Speaker Cabinet
Sure, the TH-15A has a built-in power amp--it has two of them, 150 watts for the 15" woofer and 50 watts for the HF horn. New Class D circuitry drives the woofer more efficiently with less heat byproduct than the competition's speakers. But so much more goes into an Active loudspeaker design than just amplifiers. The Active crossover divides the frequencies, time aligns the signals for proper reproduction and sends them to the appropriate drivers; active compression provides protection for the drivers, and thermal circuitry protects the amplifiers. All the onboard electronic systems work together dynamically to produce superior quality sound previously unavailable in this price range.

Portability Meets Versatility

Not only is the TH-15A a superb PA enclosure, it also makes a superior monitor wedge--just lay the asymmetrical cabinet on its side and turn it up. Its compact, lightweight design means zero strain, whether mounting it on a high pole or loading up the van. The TH-15A loudspeaker's wide frequency response makes it ideal as a keyboard, vocal or even bass guitar monitor. The TAPCO TH-15A has incredibly smooth, spike-free response and dispersion over a wide range of treble frequencies, so you can crank it without the fear of ear-splitting high-end feedback.

Protecting Your Investment

Because you probably push your loudspeakers really hard for long periods of time, some extra circuitry was added to keep your TH-15As performing at their best. You can run them to clipping without fear of thermal damage. Things can get pretty hot in the real world, so if the electronics do overheat, separate thermal switches activate and shut down the high and/or low frequency amplifiers until they cool down. Each driver has its own transparent compression circuit, which helps protect them from damaging transient peaks. An over-excursion filter, inserted just before the low frequency amplifier, protects the woofer from bottoming-out when the low-end is driven to the maximum. These extra protections ensure long life and loudspeakers you can count on.

They look great, I wouldn't hesitate to use them at a formal event. The handles are plastic (but remember, plastic can be stronger than steel), they are very sturdy and handle the weight of these speakers with no problems. Placement of the EQ knobs on the back is not the best for rough handling, but it?s not an issue if you buy protective cases (you can find them on Ebay). Setup is easy, I placed them on stands, connected them to my mixer with XLR cables and turned them on. NO HISS whatsoever, which is more than I can say for JBL Eon G2. There is some white noise from the HF driver at VERY LOW volume levels, but that completely disappears at moderate levels and higher (don?t buy these if you plan to use them for romantic candlelight dinner). The quality of the sound is better than Behringer B212A and JBL Eon G2 speakers. Better low end, and less harsh, very smooth/consistent frequency response, you will not be disappointed. For the price, these are amazing. Unless you can afford Mackie or QSC, these are your best bet.

First impressions opening the box, I was afraid the handle on the top of the speaker was going to break pulling it out of the box. Had the speaker not been so light it would have. It felt cheap. The speaker is comparable in size the the srm450 but much lighter and much cheaper feeling. Though the eq has sweeping mids, and a bypass button the controls feel cheap and they stick out risking them being broken while moving them around. When I turned them on there was an audible hiss. Was able to remove some of it by backing down the volume on the speaker. But one of the two I purchased makes a static noise (though barely audible). The saving grace of this speaker is that I was suprised at the quality of the lower freqs. The overall sound coming from the speakers was suprisingly good. I hope they last, but my thinking is that I will have to take extra special care of these if I hope to get any longevity from them.

    Good Little Speakers

    By musicdude69

    from Alberta

These speakers have been great. I bought mine 2 and a half years ago and they put out what I was Lookin for. After the third or fourth event, The pair produced a hiss. This may have been because I pushed them to fill a school gym. The only problem I had was they werent big enough for the gigs I do now. Highly suggested as monitors and small dj rigs but other thaan that, dont expect to much from them.

    very surprised

    By Anonymous

I bought these cause I was tired of luging round my mackie 1530's for smaller shows. Was looking and 450's and eon 2's but heard good reviews on these, and for the price, took a chance. First time using them was to help a DJ friend of mine that needed SR and I thought the gig was gonna be indoor bar at water park. Turns out gig was OUTSIDE covering pool deck at water park. With subs and eq-ing the lows out, these things sounded great and projected well. Very happy so far for their sound quality and volume which I was nervous about with low power rating. I would highly suggest these.

    Okay for the Money

    By CookevilleDJ.com

The pair I have produce a "hiss" with no signal input and their level set in the middle detent. No matter what conditioner etc I filter the ac power with the hiss is there. The clip light will add to your light show at only moderat volume levels. For the money they are GREAT. Just don't expect them to be the same quality as speakers that cost double the dollars. Also I bought a pair of the Gator Roll Bags that Gater claims will accomedate the Thump15a.Sure they fit like a glove. A glove 2 sizes to small. You can get them in the Gator Bags just don't expect it to be easy.

    Suprised

    By singer502

    from Columbus Ga.

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality and sound that came out of these speakers. I bought them to use as a house PA in a very small venue. I am using 2 of them for mains and 1 for a stage monitor with one 18 in. sub. This is way more than I need in this club. I would recommend these two any band or club that is looking for a great quality PA at an affordable price. You can?t beat it.

    you shouldn't pass these up

    By esp

As with any new product coming out it's always a gamble on what you will get, but as the speakers say "designed by Mackie" it definitly shows. The high and lows are perfectly balanced without the need for the eq on back. It's nice to have though when you want a little more. Vocals come through these things perfectly with the right amount of everything. The only downfall I can see people might have is the fact that it doesn't have 1/4in. jacks only XLR, but anyone serious wouldn't be using them anyway.

    Tapco TH-15A

Wow!!This thing does thump. And sings, too.I'm amazed at it's range.I've been gigging for 40+years using Peavey equipt.almost exclusively.Although I have no plans to abandon Peavey, these bad boys will be sharing the stage. They can be used as mains, monitors, subs.(in a small venue)or even as a backup bass, keyboard or guitar amp.The only improvement would be addition of 1/4''jacks.

    Good but Not Great

I bought these to use for stage monitors. For the money they are great but dont expect them to compete with higher end monitors. The sound quality is excellent, they are full and rich but cant be turned up too loud. The Bass response is good but again that's at moderate volume levels. Overall they are worth every penny as long as you keep in mind you are not paying a lot for them. You will be getting what you pay for.

    Great considering the price!

    By DJ Kadilac

    from Augusta GA

I personally went with the Tapco's because they are self-powered with an onboard eq and they have excellent highs & midrange. Even though they are 15's the bass is only good not great but it may be because I play a lot of bass heavy Hip-hop and I'm used to the Kicker CVR's in my car! I also love the fact that most of the clubs I play have speakers but no monitors in the booth, so I just just bring one and patch into the booth output and I'm golden. Oh, the best thing, they are liiiighhht(35 pounds). Quality is good but the woofer seems really cheap, not a Black Widow! But if you are a Mobile DJ on a budget then this is for you! It's the Mackie 450's cousin.

Well I bought it 5 months ago and it didn't work. I mailed it to Repair shop and only tells me they can't get parts. It looks cool, would really love to get it back to find out if it sounds as good as the reviews. I did notice the knobs were cheap and badly located. One will need to make some type of cover or they will get broke off after one or two road trips.
