OVERVIEW

Big, versatile, and armed to the teeth.

The TASCAM DM-4800 is the ultimate digital console for professional users who demand a flexible, 64-channel mix platform that configures to fit their needs. A "fat channel" strip in the center of the board provides instant access to 4-band parametric EQ, dynamics, and aux controls available for the first 48 channels. Twenty-four studio-grade mic preamps provide enough inputs for a live event, and more can be added using expansion cards with external preamps. The standard compliment of analog and digital I/O is more than you'll find on consoles costing three times as much, and a completely configurable 24-buss routing system allows you to re-patch the board at the flick of a switch.

TASCAM's DM-4800 audio mixer fits seamlessly into the modern recording environment based around a computer DAW. With a single button press, the Remote layer provides a 24-fader control surface for control of premiere workstations such as Pro Tools, Logic, SONAR, DP, Cubase and Nuendo. The optional IF-FW/DM mkII interface card provides 32 channels to and from a computer at up to 96kHz over a single FireWire cable. And the optional surround monitoring card provides downmixing, bass management and level control for mixing in up to 6.1 surround. No matter what your application, the TASCAM DM-4800 adapts to the needs of any professional audio installation.

Diss-appointing

Comments about TASCAM DM-4800 Digital Mixing Console:

THE GOOD: Lots of routing possibilities. A fair amount of standard I/O. Smooth faders. Decent ergonomic layout of controls. Mostly solid controls.THE BAD: Not that great sounding. The quality is in the construction and feature set and not in the audio implementation. There are many reviews online, and some people say it sounds very good - other say it sounds okay and some like me are not very impressed...sound is very subjective, so you really need to hear for yourself and decide. To me the effects are very pedestrian and not worthy of a device with this price tag, but your money is really going to the features and not the audio quality.THE UGLY: Bad user interface. Some menus are cramped. The information needs to be there but the screen is too small. A lot of command require 2 and three combinations of buttons when a few more dedicated buttons would have made the user experience better and would have saved a lot of user time. A color screen should have been a must or perhaps two screens. And the size is unforgivably small...some cell phone screens are almost as big.SUMMARY: So much potential...doesn't quite deliver...at least not at this price.

NO Big Deal

By qK_4Xkl8l

Comments about TASCAM DM-4800 Digital Mixing Console:

I have this board. With the firewire interface. The MKII firewire interface is highly problematic and will not work with many, many interfaces. Even those on brand new Macs. The board doesn't really sound that good. Tech support is so poor that I would never buy TASCAM products again.

Amazing Mixing Console

By Alejandro31

from Markham, Ontario, Canada

Comments about TASCAM DM-4800 Digital Mixing Console:

This mixing console has solved so many problems that we used to have long ago. Although is somewhat complicated to use for a regular user it is fairly user friendly if you know a little bit of sound mixing. I use this mixer twice a week in a church. We have a live band on Sundays and we want to get started in recording our own worship music. We already record the different messages and sometimes the worship but cannot do it properly due to the fact that it is not the only thing I do. We also record the translators, Farsi and Turkish. Overall this machine is so good and has put my experience with sound mixing to a great challenge. Before we had a 16 channel mixer with 1 output channel.

Comments about TASCAM DM-4800 Digital Mixing Console:

Wow. This mixer sounds great. Everything works perfectly and I love the meter bridge. The usability is phenomenal. Its not really a plug-and-go but if you take the time to learn how to use it, it will serve you well.
