A portable CD quality 4-track digital multi-track recorder
The TASCAM DP-004 Digital Pocketstudio is based on 30 years of easy-to-use cassette Portastudios, updated with 4 tracks of CD-quality digital recording. Like those groundbreaking Portastudios, a row of knobs set levels and pan instead of a list of menus. This is a limited edition red model.
The DP-004 records up to 2 sources at once to its included 1GB SD Card. A built-in stereo condenser microphone makes it simple to record anywhere you go. The TASCAM DP-004 is a perfect recorder for concerts, rehearsals and songwriting inspiration. Connect your own microphones or other sources using the pair of 1/4" jacks on the rear panel. Even switch the inputs to guitar-level for another very handy recording option.
Use the TASCAM DP-004 to build up your arrangement until you've filled up all 4 tracks. Consolidate tracks and make room for more overdub layers with the Bounce feature. The DP-004 Pocketstudio's Autopunch feature fixes problems, and you also get Track Editing and an Undo function.
TASCAM also built mixing into the Digital Pocketstudio. Once you set levels and pan, record your mix onto a dedicated stereo master track. Transfer your tracks and mixes to your computer over USB 2.0 for CD burning and music sharing online.
Despite its go-anywhere compact design”smaller than a paperback book”the TASCAM DP-004 is simple enough for students, songwriters and musicians who want to keep their recording process simple and creative.

This is a great way to start laying down recordings is a no frills kind of manner. Of course there aren't a lot of mixing options, although I have heard of people running the tracks into a mixing software program on their PC, but I see this as a way to get even more creative!!!! I love the recordings that I have captured and the Bounce feature allows you to track even more than the 4 standard tracks. I am completely satisfied with this unit. I was looking for an easy way to record my songs and this has been nothing but a joy to do that with!!!!!
I got one for ChristmasI have been using it to record my band1st forget about the computer interfaceI never got mine to work Although with a couple of mics it makes decent recordings. Then last weekend It just died, Ive only had it 6 months and it has never worked well.Oh and no EQ or Backlite really sucks
