TASCAM

CD-quality recording with no menus to stand between you and your music!

The TASCAM DP-02 Digital Portastudio makes recording simple by matching 8-track CD-quality recording with a Portastudio interface. Now you can ditch the menus and concentrate on the music. A pair of record-quality TASCAM mic preamps offers XLR inputs with phantom power for condenser mics and a guitar input for direct recording. Each channel gives you dedicated controls for instant access to fader level, record arm/track mute, pan, effect send, high and low EQ. There's also an EQ frequency button for finer control over the mix.

2 effects processors are included in the DP-02. A multi-effects processor on the input provides great-sounding overdrive, flange, delay, and more for your guitar, vocal, drum, and bass tracks. In addition, there's a reverb processor on a send and return for adding hall, room, plate, or chamber reverb to your mix. The DP-02 is loaded with great TASCAM extras like a chromatic tuner, metronome, and bar-and-beat display for getting around your song.

The DP-02 records 2 channels at a time to a built-in 40GB hard drive. When you're satisfied with your production, arm the dedicated master track for your stereo mixdown. You can transfer your tracks and mixes or backup your song to a computer through a speedy USB 2.0 connection or burn it to a CD with the slot-loading drive. No other workstation makes recording so simple, affordable and fun as the TASCAM DP-02.

Features:

Many features, but an outmoded system. Came with no instruction book, but downloaded one off web. Were several somewhat helpful homemade videos on line because of the units long history. Bought good mikes and unit capable of producing studio recordings. DVD from Tascam on way. For single musician probly ideal.

Great for producing HIP HOP

| Review By: mike coffman | 2 months, 3 weeks ago

Features:

the features contained within this machine are exactly what is need for hip hop production, but im yet to see a reveiw on this geared toward the hip hop producer, so here we go.....the PAN knobs make it extremely easy to lay down the main vocals, then lay down the double up vocal tracks, then pan one left, then one right....this is key for the hip hop sound......then the REVERB adds the warm and slightly echoed effect to make your vocals stand up.....if you are recording alot of tracks and dont want to use two tracks, the MONO X2 effect aollows you to record a pan left/right combo track one one track without losing any crispness from the sound.....the effects are STUDIO QUALITY, and the fact it has a 40gb harddrive and cd burner makes this a STANDALONE gem at the price

Quality:

the build is GREAT....yes it is plastic, and at first you think it would break easily.....but it has withstood hundreds of hours of recording and continues to preform great without any failures

Value:

the best $$$ you could possibly spend if you are looking to record a solid sound with a limited budget

Overall:

excellent product.....thought more of as a multitrack geared toward a band....but im telling you if you read the manual, take about 3-4 hours of learning the buttons, you can acheive a studio quaility sound

Review of DP-02 Digital Portastudio

| Review By: Richard Hibbs | 3 months, 1 week ago

Features:

Once you start learning how to Navigate - it's not too hard to use.

Quality:

so far the quality of the recordings have been excellent . Our band has been using this for several months and recording . We have not figured out how to master or burn CD's yet.   The manual is useless. There is an instructional DVD that we just ordered seperately.

Value:

The Price is good. Very difficult to use. The manual is not very good. In fact, it is very awful and difficult.  We just ordered the Instructional DVD, which was not included?. Everything myself and my band mates  have learned so far is off of watching you tube videos.

Overall:

Like I mentioned. MY band purchased this hoping we could make our own CD. When we received the device , it took us a while to learn how to record. The manual is not too helpfull . We had to watch video's off of youtube to learn how to record. After several months, we still have not figured out how to burn CD's and Master. We just ordered the Instructional Video, which was not included. The recordings are very good, and once we learned to record, we have enjoyed using the device. You can only record 2 channels at once . It would be nice to have more channels to record at once onto. We are veterean musicians that have been around music and recording for over 20 years. The cassette 4 tracks were way easier to learn to use!

Features:

So many effects, and there realy good.

Quality:

Very rugged steel encloser.

Value:

You can't beat the price for what this 8 tracks got!!

Overall:

I have used computer software that you had to tinker with, and still can't get it the way you want it.This recorder is hands on ,you can do any with it without a computer. Sound quality is great, the effects on the board are great , easy to use even if you just quickly go threw the manual fast. You should read the manual any way to get more info on the advance featchers.Very well built. Records CD's fast , mine came with a 130 GB HD not a 40 GB witch is a bonus and the firmware was upgraded higher then what the Tascam web site showed, another bonus. THIS RECORDER IS GREAT!!!!!!

Get the Tascam DP-02, it's the way to go for making demos and more..

Straight forward.  Probably a little more tricky when using the CD drive, but other than this I believe is worth buying this one.  Great price/value.
