Up to 24-bit/96kHz WAV or MP3 recording with auto backup.

The TASCAM DR-2d Portable Digital Recorder brings high-resolution recording to a compact, affordable package. It offers up to 96kHz/24-bit WAV or MP3 recording to SD cards, and recordings can be transferred to your computer through high-speed USB 2.0.

A dual recording feature has 2 modes. Mode 1 records a copy of your audio at a lower level, so if the level suddenly jumps you have a backup instead of a distorted performance. Mode 2 records 2 separate stereo tracks at once, one from the built-in mics and a second from an external mic or from the line in, which could be a send from your mixing board or any other line-level stereo source. The resulting stereo tracks can be mixed together on the DR-2d or imported into your DAW for further editing.

Record using the new built-in condenser microphones or plug in your own. You can slow down recordings without changing the pitch, and there's even a metronome and built-in speaker. The DR-2d provides hours of recording time using a pair of AA batteries, making it the perfect partner for songwriting, live performance, rehearsal or home studio recording.

Features

  • Unique stereo condenser microphone design with improved signal-to-noise ratio
  • Dual recording function records a copy of your audio at a lower level or records 2 separate stereo files, one from the mics and one from the mic or line in

  • Internal effects including reverb

This is a great portable recorder! I must encourage everyone to read the instructions prior to use! This units settings and SD card must be set prior to use otherwise in my case you will end up with nothing recorded. The DR-2D burns up batteries in a very short time and the ac converter should be used during recording for over one hour periods. Some SD cards are not compatible with this recorder so do you "homework" and check out which SD manufacturers on line that can be used. I would limit the SD capacity to 8 GB even though the manual says you may use up to 16 GB cards. I enjoy the fact that you can record in stereo and an line input at the same time so you have the flexibility to mix your recordings with both sources. The WAV files use more SD card space but the quality of the recording is much improved over MP3 files. I purchased this unit in "mint condition" and got it at a great price. Consumer reports praise this Tascam DR-2D recorder for being a great tool to record music to practice or capture your "gig" with excellent results! I would highly recommend you buy this recorder!

I bought this but I'm not all that satisfied with it. It's not the easiest thing to use at all. I've been recording, playing, and engeneering my own music for many years now and I inicially thought this would be a good beginners device that could easily be connected to a board to record shows.
    It's not.
    The opperating system is clunky,
it doesn't seem to show when it's getting signal from the board at all, and many others issues.

I was recording our jam session pushed pause and the first couple times it worked but after that i had to take batteries out and restart it. I had to do that a few times. Otherwise it works well. It Picks up the band at the bars really good also

This recorder is awesome. Very sensitive and easy to use. The sound quality is amazing. Our band uses it to record practices and gigs. Best money we have ever spent for equipment. We review recordings and make improvements based on what we hear. Much better than trying to sort things out based on memory. With a 4 gig chip we can capture a whole evening of music. Do yourself a favor and buy the AC adapter or buy stock in one of the battery companies.

Absolutely fantastic for on-the-go, just bring batteries.

              By Joseph Harrie

              from Omaha, NE

Comments about TASCAM DR-2d Portable Digital Recorder:

It has a simple design, easy to use and the built-in mic's have great quality! All the little extra settings for dual recording and filters you can apply work as they are described.
The only things I really have against it is that after messing around with settings to figure it out for about an hour, it starts getting errors. I don't recommend renaming it on your computer, as that might of have been a problem. Also, as this does run out-of-the-box on 2 AA Lithium batteries, it will kill the batteries after a couple hours of use, so bring extra!

Overall however, the value is great, quality is awesome, and I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone who needs some good audio quality on the go!
Features are simple but still plenty; built in filters and effects, the button layout and interface is easy to figure out and helpful to use, and of course, the dual record setting works just like it says.
It's not that the quality is bad, but it could've been better. Wouldn't recommend messing around with the internal settings too much or else you might have to factory restart it a few times before it works right again. (true story)
But as far as the hardware and software interfacing; awesome, truly helpful, easy, and most importantly, usefull!
Amazing value, for the amount you spend, and how long you'll be using it; this is the perfect value.
