OVERVIEW

Hooks up to your favorite computer and select iOS devices for true stereo recording with very low noise.

TASCAM' iUR2 is a premium sound quality audio interface for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. It includes all of the features of TASCAM' best-selling USB audio interfaces, including a pair of great-sounding microphone inputs. The XLR inputs have phantom power for use with high-quality condenser microphones. These feed an onboard microphone preamp and A/D converter for better sound performance than those built into the iPhone and iPad “ true stereo recording with low noise and less tendency to distort. The inputs also accept line-level signals or you can plug a guitar or bass directly into your device.

A zero-latency monitoring path allows you to hear yourself directly through the unit, without any distracting delay. MIDI in and out are provided to interface with synths and drum machines, and a digital output connects to digital mixers or recorders.

Note: An appropriate 2-track recording application (Tascam PCM Recorder) can be downloaded from AppStore at no charge.

This thing work well, but you may have to download an ASIO driver as I did. I use Cubase and windows7. The factory drivers didn't work well. In fact it didn't work at all. I got a whole lot of noises, pops and squeals. After downloading a separate ASIO driver it worked great. Tascam should provide you with drivers so you don't have to take the time to figure out what drivers you may need. That's why I'm giving it a 4 stars. I think Tascam could have cared a little more about it's customers.

This device is not compatible with some the latest operating systems. It also does not work by custom drivers, but system level drivers. For this reason, it will need firmware updates, and there is currently no support from Tascam. Buyer beware.

I have tested the interface under Windows 7 and iOS6, and it works great. But my main goal is iPad mobility under iOS7, hence the 2 stars. The preamps are very basic and give different sound under guitar and mic/line level inputs. The included cables are very worthwhile for midi and 1/4 phone connections. The 30-pin apple connector is hard-wired to the device, negating use of lighting cable-based iOS devices w/out an adapter.

I have not heard back from Tascam as of 12/29 after inquiring about iOS7 compatibility. I am aware of the statement about this issue on their product page, but there is no timeline or clear plan about firmware support.

All in all, if you are planning on using this with IOS7, lightning-based connectivity, or the latest Mac OS, hold off until Tascam communicates clear support plans. Otherwise, if you plan to use with iOS6, 30-pin apple devices, or Windows 7, go for it. Though the retail price is too high. I bought at the SDOD price.

Comments about Tascam iUR2 USB Audio/MIDI Interface for iPad, Mac and PC:

I blame myself for not researching this better, even the TEAC site says it might not be compatible wit IOS 7. I bought this strictly as an Ipad device but found it was incompatible with IOS 7 and most Ipad audio software. The Teac software that is supposed to work with this device is not available anymore. So if you have an old Ipad that hasn't been updated and someone wants to pay you to take this device from them and you downloaded the original TEAC software before it was removed from the App store it is probably a high quality device. Otherwise, it should have been buried in the landfill with the Atari ET game.

Comments about Tascam iUR2 USB Audio/MIDI Interface for iPad, Mac and PC:

When using the USB out to record it gives a cycling static noise. I've tried multiple USB cables and ports, but it still occurs. My guess is it's something to do with the computer power supply... but there is no option for a wall wart power supply on the device itself. Only USB. I can use the phone out, but what's the point... I could just go directly into the sound card. Big waste of money. Lots of bad reviews here... so take warning. You can do better.

Comments about Tascam iUR2 USB Audio/MIDI Interface for iPad, Mac and PC:

I ordered my first one a week or so before Christmas and it arrived with the device nonfunctional. The USB port on the back which supplies the power and the sound to and from the computer was no functional. I sent the first one back to Musicians friend and the next one arrived yesterday. The power function of this ones USB port works but the sound to and from the computer is finicky. It works some times but other times it does not recognize its self being plugged in. I believe this is a driver issue from Tascam and I am at the moment waiting for a reply from them about this. Tempted to return this one as well as a faulty piece of equipment.

Comments about Tascam iUR2 USB Audio/MIDI Interface for iPad, Mac and PC:

I haven't been able to get a riff in yet; the interfacing of the iUR2 with my 2012 Mac has been non-occuring, and the free app that Tascam's manual describes apparently doesn't exist in MacIntosh App Land. The unit has great adaptors and looks directly functional and straightforward, once you can get it recognized and operating. That hasn't happened for me. I may still hear from Tascam support. It's only been about a week. But the iUR2 seems not to rate much attention from its creator; there's a hint of obsolescence in its orphan status.

Nice little break out box with 3 ins audio as well as midi. You're not going to be doing full swing band recording but, nice song writining box that allows for doing some credible CD quality tracks.
If you're using windows, skip the download and just get the free AISO for all. (Also remember to select the iUR2 in the AISO drop down menu.) Works with every thing so far. Audacity, Magix, Reaper, KX studio (Linux)
            Great budget box.

Seriously? It says IN THE TITLE that this device is for iPad. So what happens when you plug it into an iPad. You get a message: "This device is not recognized." If you're wanting an interface to work with iPad, DO NOT BUY THIS.
