OVERVIEW

A smart, simple way to turn your iOS device a portable broadcast recording tool.

Ideal for small-broadcast recording, the iXJ2 Mic/Line Amplifier turns your iOS devices into a quality handheld broadcasting tool. It has two 3.5mm inputs for connecting a monarual clip mic or stereo microphone for both vertical and horizontal use. Both inputs can be adjusted independently making it possible to connect different sources to each input. For instance when using two mics for two people, you can make individual fine adjustments for each person with the large independent volume knobs. There's even a MONO SUM feature which will mix the monaural sounds in the center. The inputs also accept a very wide input gain range – up to 56dB. This allows the connection of anything from keyboards, stereo audio players, and other line level outputs.

iXJ2's pre-amplifier circuit adopts the acclaimed NJM4580 operational amplifier to guarantee clear, crisp and decisive sound quality. Its analog limiter reduces distortion when the input is pushed too hard. Select from stereo link operation and independent operation in order to meet your recording needs.

For amazing audio performance, the iXJ2 employs an AKM A/D converter to ensure that sound passing through the TASCAM unit to the iOS device does not degrade. Utilizing the AK5357 A/D converter, the iXJ2 achieves 100dB (@3V, 48kHz) S/N ratio and dynamic range.

The iXJ2 is powered from your devices with minimal drain on your iOS device's battery life. With use of a mini-USB connector you are able to charge your iOS device via the iXJ2 for extended recordings.

TASCAM's free "PCM Recorder" App is available for free on Apple's App Store. The iXj2 work with nearly all audio designed for the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch, but TASCAM recommends the Linear PCM Recorder App(sold separately) for maximum compatibility with your device.

Comments about TASCAM iXJ2 Line-In/Mic Converter for Apple iOS:

I own multiple iOS units. I bought this at a good price - black friday deal. What is nice is that it is small, it has 2 x 1/8" stereo inputs, or you can use it as 2 mono inputs depending on type of microphone you use. It also has the option to power your microphone and a mini USB port for charging while you use the unit. So far so good.
I tested the unit all inputs and it works flawlessly. In the documentation it does not mention what software tascam has that yo ucan use to record. No big deal, there is a free app and what is noce is that yo udo not need to have this unit to use it. YOu can use this with ANY software. The unit is seen as a microphone and when your App says it wants to accress the microphone this is why.
Can it do multitracking? I think is can as 2 mono or 1 stereo panned left and right but I do not have Apps that does that. IOt is not a hardware limitation, but a software.
It has 2 led VU meters that glow red when you are starting to clip. has a limiter , stereo or mono link options as well. Sound quality is pretty darn good.
    I tried the following"
    1) Used is with a cheap PC microphone, was good sound but too much hiss.
    2) Used it with my acoustic electric bass as a instrument input to record, and sound quality was very good, not much coloration
    3) used it as a line input direct from an external source like a CD, sound was flawless.

The only thing that this unit does not have is a monitor option. yo ucannot listen to what is recording while it is recording. Not sure if it is iOS limitation or apple hardware setup. I plud in my headphones and listen but I hear nothing. I am guessing it is because there may be feedback that can happen so the headphones are muted.

Ok for you guys who think that this is for the OLD iOS units because of the large connector. Not to worry, I bought the Apple adapter hooked it up and Voila works flawlessly.

In response to an earlier post that it does not stay put, it would be nice if Tascam had put in the locking clips like the old apple cables but I am glad it is not. If something happens and yo upull on the cird, your whole unit can go flying. I did not find it too easy for it to slip out when inserted. But like all iOS accessories it is designed for easy removal. If yo are using it with an adapter and the small iOS connector, it does not disconnect as wasy so that is good.

So you can use it to record anyway you like. at the Black friday price its a great stocking stuffer for iOS musicians.

Comments about TASCAM iXJ2 Line-In/Mic Converter for Apple iOS:

Good software, excellent sound quality but when you connect two mike cables and the USB charger cable the whole mess won't stay plugged in to my iPad it just falls off. I use a big rubber band or string to make sure it stays plugged in to my iPad.

Comments about TASCAM iXJ2 Line-In/Mic Converter for Apple iOS:

The only thing I noticed in using the product,as with any interface, keep the level low on the input of the iJX2. Adjust the level going into the iJX until you see the levels going into the red, then adjust your input on the DAW.
At higher levels the tascam can have some distortion and hissing. After your level adjustment learning curve, the result is very clear recording.
I have an ipad mini with the lightning connector
and this works with the adaptor very well.
I have the iUR2 also. Both work very well.

Comments about TASCAM iXJ2 Line-In/Mic Converter for Apple iOS:

This is the 2nd Tascam product I've had to return recently. MF might consider re-evaluating Tascam's quality. This adapter, supposedly for iPhone, easily fell out of lightning port when external mics added. Spinwheel L/R very hard to manipulate independently. Underside buttons almost impossible to read.

This is really a toy. Admittedly not a bad Stupid Deal at 29.99, but return MF shipping cost 6.99 and I had to pay 3.04 USPS shipping + 1.05 tracking to return, 11.08/29.99= 37% of the cost for nothing. I used to be a pretty good MF customer, but I'm reconsidering
