You can't beat this unit when looking for a combination of quality and price. With a mixer that delivers like pro-mixer's and the ability to record resolution up to 16khz on high quality chrome tapes, this little unit sounds great. The DBX feature is the best noise reduction system I've ever heard. Keeping the heads de-guased, making sure I have no electromganetic inductance, and the DBX feature on, I can do more than 3 overdubs and still have little to no ambient noise that can be heard during sections of silence in the tape. That comes up to no less than 12 tracks with this guy. The processor controlled functions are spot on, near deadly accuracy. Pops from punch in and outs are virtually non existant during a recorded section. And the ability to turn on only what you want to hear make this machine great for getting the perfect mix. Not only does it have tape que on the effects two channel, but you have the option to turn off all sound from everything except the tape que, or monitor only what's coming through channel 7 and 8 or monitor effects as the rest of the music is being recorded straight. Channels 5 and 6 can be assigned to any of the other 4 channels in case you don't want to bother with changing inputs all of the time, and you can make any combination of channel recording you may with with the ability to select a couple tracks of your choice to be recorded to directly from their inputs, as well as recording other inputs of your choice conjointly onto any other number of tracks of your choice... just like pro-recorders and digital recorders. I've been using mine since mid 2000, and it's still going strong! You can't beat it!

mixer is great

I just got my mkIII and I had to send it back because the tape recorder didn't work. Other than that, the mixer worked great.

Tacsam 424 Cassette 4 track

By Anthony Frederick

from Nottingham, Maryland

Awesome. You can create phase effects with messing with the eq controls between the 4 channels. I have recorded my band with this and the frequencies are high and bright, considering this is a cassette recorder, it is nice and bright sounding. Overall, for a cassette 4 track, I rate this a 10!!!

This is really cool

By Jason-yUc9v

from Undisclosed

This thing is really really really good but i would only love it better if i could just remember how to throw everything on the 4th track to make it have 3 extra remaining tracks.

A+

By Jesse-os0w2

One of the best in the world of 4-track recording. My favorite feature is being able to "bounce" 3 tracks onto the remaining 4th one. Musicians have way more than just 4 layers to work with when using this machine. High quality sound; highly recommended.

More bang for your buck

By MoFly41

from Cleveland, OH

This is an amazing mixer and recorder for its price. I use it to record bands, including my own, and it hasn't let me down yet. The only thing is that it only has 4 inputs, which can be easily multiplied with an external mixer. This thing gives you more features than most tape recorders, and I prefer tape recordings over digital, so this thing is a beauty. Lightweight and prety easy to use, you'll be up and running in no time. I've used tascam for 4 years and they are amzaing quality and price. Great product! A+++

I love it,

By smokindog

Great value, get a good mic and a cheap effects processor and your good to go!!!!I got a mxl v63mbp for $60.00(uses a nine volt battery) and alesis ineko table-top effects processor for reverb, phase shifting ect. for about $70.00 . I mix on to the hardrive of my pc. Make shure you use a good qaulity tape(i like tdk pro sm30, this will give you 7.5 min. recording time). HAVE FUN!!!!!!

damn fine piece of equipment

By legion3030

from NY, NY

i love my 4-track, i wouldnt bother working with the tracks 5-8 they're a pain in the butt, however i love the lo-fi sounds of a tape based 4-track, and this is quite a versatile machine, perfect for demos or actual album tracks if your lookin for that lo-fi sound, plus you can record backwards tracks with little trouble

Buying My Second Tascam

By Pastor Roland Nono

from Maui, Hawaii

I bought my first recording studio back in the mid 80s for a lot more than what I am paying for today. My present Tascam is on its last leg so I'm replacing it before it finally dies. Besides, the price is right. What can I say about this machine, but "it is a 10 all the way". As a second time buyer this says a lot. Don't think, just buy one. From Maui, Hawaii - Aloha.
