Comments about Tascam SS-R100 Professional Solid State Recorder:
After a dozen + years of faithful service, my Sony Mini Disc deck died, so the quest began to find a new mastering deck for my project studio. It really came down to this Tascam unit, & a similar one by Denon, which offered more features, but I discovered the Denon would leave a slight "click" sound when you added a track marker. Also the Denon would only label the tracks with the date only, so if you recorded 20 tracks on the same date, good luck finding the one you need to locate. Not acceptable!!
I've had this Tascam unit now for a couple of month's, & still haven't gotten around to trying out the "playlist" feature, or the keyboard jack on the front for adding song titles, but I love the fact that this recorder has no moving parts to wear out!! And although the bit rates don't come close to 24/96k, like their handheld digital field recorders do (go figure!), I've found the recordings sound excellent! The only thing that really bugs me is the wired remote. My old Sony deck had a wireless remote, & you could change the track order, enter song titles, customize fade in/out, & other cool stuff. This is the one thing sadly lacking with Tascam decks! The recorders pretty great, a real step forward, but the remote needs a serious upgrade, to what was being done over 12 years ago!
