The TASCAM US122mkII is your computer's gateway into the audio world. More than just a soundcard, it has a pair of quality microphone preamps for connecting any type of microphone. High-quality condenser microphones—like the included TM-78—require phantom power to operate, which is available on the US-122mkII via switch. Thankful to have returned it. I'll be glad to pay more for a product that is designed with the user in mind.
The Cubase software was pretty difficult to install, but I was able to install it after 2-3 hours.
The driver for the interface is a real pain in the neck. Your computer MUST be running in administrator mode to even load and install. If it isn't, the drivers won't install and iut won't tun. After about 5 hours, I finallly downgraded some security settings and got the drivers installed but the software never worked. I suppose the interface works but I really don't know.
There is NO support for any of these products. The manuals are small, cheesy pamphlets that are mnore like 'quick starts' with no real direction to them. Go online....don't bother. The TASCASM website offers 1 suggestion, "be sure you're in admin mode"...That's it.
I am so thankful Musician's Friend has a 45 satisfaction guaranteed return policy. Thanks but no thanks. Don't buy this dog.

The TrackPack X2 Bundle was/is very difficult to use. It took over 6 hours to install the software (primarily due to the fact that the disc itself was bad). Had to figure out where to get the latest software for free from the Steinberg website, but the website is very difficult to naviagate through too. I do software install consulting work for a living, and this is possibly the worst setup I have ever seen.

This is an awesome package, if you're just starting then I would recommend this package, although I think it's a little overpriced. I've done some pretty good recordings with it, I've recorde drums, acoustic and electric guitars, vocals and keybords. You'll need to buy more stuff though, this is just to get you started, later on you'll need a preamp or a mixer, then if you want to record more tracks at the same time, a different interface. I honestly think you could record a whole album with this package, you would just need to buy a preamp, an extra microphone (optional), stands, cords, and a mastering software. It wouldn't be as high qualuity as the professional recordings but a good recording starts out with a good song and good instruments.
