Don't bypass this product. I currently using this along with a Sony laptop and a Mackie analog mixer, recording a song for a movie. Although it does have a little delay, but you will find that with any USB interface; get a firewire or a PCI interface if you want to avoid that. If you want a double headset using a TRS/TS insert, you will need to by a splitter ( Live Wire 1/4"(M)-Dual 1/4"(F) Y Cable (6 Inches)), or you can use a RC out and plug it into a speaker system for engineer monitor and then use the TS out for the musician. Anyway you put it, this product is great and great for the money.

I purchased this item over a year ago in the T2 Bundle which came with Condensor Mic and Headphones. (Im still using the mic to this day) The interface initially was good, but as I got better and upgraded my equipment I realised that this interface was what was holding back my music. I got 1 64 Bit system, and let me say finding a driver was a task. And once I did find a driver it had the worst, crackle, hiss, and pop. Interface would go out and I would need to reset often. SOLD!!! upgraded to the Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP and let me just say pure nostalgia...

A decent little tool

Comments about TASCAM US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface New Open Box:

This is a decent little tool as long as you understand it's limitations. I thought I could record good sounding tracks with this, a live mixer and some crap mics. I was very frustrated by that whole ordeal, but eventually as i learned more about sound and recording, I realized that this is a very nice useful tool just to lay down ideas and tracks. This is a handy tool, for any musician, but only if you understand what you are getting. A couple of inputs for a simple rig.

Comments about TASCAM US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface New Open Box:

Ok, so I was real excited when I got this thing in the mail. I was planning to record a song the instant it came in..... Foiled againThey don't tell you that these things don't work on 64bit systems. Why are they still selling these when they won't work on today's pcs?

Didn't solve my latency problem

Comments about TASCAM US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface New Open Box:

I may have gotten bad sales advice but I was advised to buy this to solve latency for my soft synth and it didn't make a difference. Might be good for other things but not a soft synth.

Works Great!

By A.I

from Kansas City

Comments about TASCAM US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface New Open Box:

It is great i am a singer song writer that plays guitar and it is the easiest thing in the world to record with. I use it to lay all my tracks down, bass guitar, drums, electric and acoustic guitars. If you know how to record and do a little mastering this thing we will work just fine for anyone starting recording or wanting something mobile!

Actually it does work on 64bitbut this interface other than the fact that it stops interfacing everytime it clips, IT CLIPS AT LOW VOLUME! even the software stopped working. Bought a maudio fastrack pro! OMG best thing in the world

Driver Difficulties

By TNFOM

from Colorado

Comments about TASCAM US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface New Open Box:

When this works, it's great. I've used it to record one full CD on a Windows XP machine, and it was a champ. However, using it with Vista or Windows 7 is hit or miss, mostly miss. Constant dropouts and stutters, which hours upon hours of troubleshooting couldn't remedy. It's not the machines I used, because other interfaces work perfectly. And it's not the USB cables or the interface itself, because it works fine on some machines. I blame Tascam's drivers, and I'm not the only one.

GREAT PRODUCT

Comments about TASCAM US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface New Open Box:

This product has been great for the price. I have experienced no latency, no hiss no crackle. I use this with Adobe Audition 1.5 (windows vista and XP machines) and it performs perfectly. I also ran my studio mike (that requires phantom power...which this unit has) through this and recorded directly to AA 1.5 with no problems. Used the MXL 990 and it was clear as a bell. If you like you could run a Behringer mixer through this and record a demo of more than one instrument/vocal on one channel.

You Get What You Pay For

By nathansmind

from Out West

Comments about TASCAM US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface New Open Box:

I use this interface purely for its inputs. For me it's a nice songwriting tool to hook a mic and guitar up to my computer. I have it on my desk, so if inspiration strikes I can lay down some tracks quick. The outputs sound terrible, so I switch to my computers outs to mix. You aren't going to get professional sounding mixes with this little thing, but if you need some cheap inputs this thing isn't bad. I really can't say anything bad about it, only that you get what you pay for with this thing.

Works on 64-bit

Comments about TASCAM US-144 USB Audio/MIDI Interface New Open Box:

I saw the one review that said this didnt work on 64bit systems, but it works on mine... with a little tricking. I constantly have to change inputs in the preferance and have it plugged in on start up to operate properly... Even then when I'm mixing I have to unplug it to get audio to work right. Overall it records really well, I'm willing to deal with starting up and changing prefs as long as it records clear. I do wish there was a 64 bit work horse, but for cheap... I'll take it for the time being
