Enough faders and knobs to really do the job!

The TASCAM US-2400 24 CH USB DAW Controller lets you use your mouse for what it's good at and use a control surface for what it's good at. You'll love the US-2400 for hands-on mixing with lots of real faders, knobs, and buttons. The TASCAM US-2400 is the first DAW fader controller with enough faders to handle a typical recording session -- and feel like a real mixing console -- without lots of bank switching. The US-2400 features 24 touch-sensitive moving channel faders and a touch-sensitive motorized master fader, each with 10-bit resolution for precise level control. Each channel has dedicated select, solo, and mute controls. 24 rotary encoders are provided with the US-2400, selectable to control pan or up to 8 aux sends. Plus, all 24 encoders can also be used as one large channel strip for 4-band EQ, aux and pan control. Each encoder has a ring of LEDs that can display the current setting or double as channel meters during recording and playback. A set of solid-feeling transport buttons is also provided, as well as a shuttle wheel and a joystick for surround panning. Compare the TASCAM US-2400 to any other controller on the market today (and the extra expanders you'd have to buy to get 24 motorized faders) and you'll discover that the US-2400 gives you much more control for the money.

    Features

    • Fully mapped control for any DAW that supports HUI or Mackie Control protocols
    • 24 touch-sensitive 100mm moving faders, each with 10-bit resolution
    • Select, Solo, and Mute keys
    • 24 encoders control pan, aux level, or channel strip functions like EQ and Aux
    • LED ring displays around encoders display parameters or channel meters
    • Footswitch jack for punch-ins

    • Assignable Function keys can be set to Autopunch, Record arming, Undo, etc.

I've had mine about a year and a half now. When I first got it, the drivers for Cubase were not completely written for it yet, so I actually had to use a couple of beta revisions at first. After that got taken care of, the unit work as promised and then some. Large multi-track (24+ tracks) projects are now night-&-day easier. For anyone in at least a semi-pro recording environment, this is a must-have. Where it really shines is mix-down. The motorized faders in conjunction with Cubase' automation is smooth. Not having to touch the mouse, especially on critical fades is nice. Having the pan and mute right there when setting up the automation is very convenient as well.I agree with someone else's comment who said "The only drawback is that it has no LCD." Having that feature to give the user a little feedback on some of the functionality would have been very helpfull but not completely necessary. I would have gave it 9 stars instead of 8 if it had that feature. The other item that is constantly in use and I totally can't live without is the "Transport Controls" and the "Jog Wheel." The buttons themselves are very solid-feeling on the Tascam. Trying to get a precise punch-in with a mouse is no easy task. The controls on the '2400 are awesome, sturdy and precise. If you regularly work in a multi-tracking environment on a DAW, then you can't live without some kind of control surface. The Tascam US-2400 truly is an awesome and is the one you want. It is definitely a must-have!

Don't even consider buying this product. Sure the price is great but it's cheap for a reason. I just sent mine back. The unit did not work with cubase; it kept crashing. I e-mailed costumer service and they just sent me the instruction of how to configure the us2400 with cubase (which already came with the unit!) e-mailed them back to telling them that it still wasn't working and I never heard from them again. I thought that I had just gotten a defective unit (it happens right?) until I found out that tascam stopped the production of this product 2 weeks ago. hmmm... Now why would tascam stop making a relatively new product? Well, it's simple; the product doesn't work. I am going to save money and buy the mackie control (which tascam attemted to emulate) I know it's way more expensive but at least I know it will work. So I guess I'm stuck with the mouse for a while.

This one goes to eleven ... and more!

    By Andy-zP40c

    from Phoenix, AZ

Boy, did I get lucky! This thing is a GODSEND! I hooked it up to my XP Pro machine and the driver installed automagically. I set the mode for CuBase and fired up the software. Much to my surprise, EVERYTHING worked just like it was supposed to. I have only had this for a few days, but I can see the advantages it brings to computer based recording. I am ready to sell my Yamaha 2816 (as soon as I dump all the tracks into CuBase). Ican't believe that TASCAM discontinued this awesome control surface. Much better for large projects than ANYTHING ELSE on the market at anywhere near the price. Maybe just anything else, period. Maybe they will consider bringing back, or making a FireWire version (hint, hint). The only drawback is that it doesn't work on my new Vista PC. Ican live with XP for all that this product affords me!

    Great Hardware!

    By Alexander Nadal P.

    from Santo Domingo

I have it since january 2006, its a great piece of hardware for mixing, looks really nice, it does what it says it does.I have used it with ,Sonar,Cubase,Protools and Reason, and in every mode it works. I like the way it works in protools, really simple, now, in cubase I like the fact that by default you can use the EQ from the console.. By using the Midi controller mode, you can control plugins in sonar and cubase, not yet in protools..The transport is the finest transport ive seen.. The best of all is that I think that I am the only one with this hardware in my country and now everyone wants one.

    Great hands-on mixing

I am using this with Digital Performer on a Dual G5. It works like a charm. I have been liberated from mixing with the mouse and qwerty keyboard.

    Now comes with SoftLCD!!

    By Jack-YYGvm

    from Laval, Quebec, Canada

I don't have this DAW controller yet but man, it really does interest me specially at that great low price! I know a lot of people were complaining about the lack of a LCD but I just went to TASCAM web site and they now have a new SoftLCD that displays 24 channels of data on your computer sceen! Wow, that solves this probem. I can't imagine something better suited for a mixing desk for my DAW then this product, especially coming from TASCAM. I just need to get one now...Jack

Mixing on my DAW just go a lot easier.

    By whattarush

I'm lovin' it!!! I've been using the US-2400 with SONAR 4PE since February of this year and this baby is doing exactly what it was advertised to do. Setting it up was easy (no drivers to install) and the flying faders adds a nice cool touch. The only drawback is that it has no LCD and it gets a little confusing trying to remember which track you are controlling a times but overall this baby rocks!!!

    I love it!

    By Jim-TXMHD

Using the US-2400 is the most fun I have had mixing down in my Cubase-SX System. It is truly a plug-in-and-play device that's up and running in minutes. I have had it for about a week now and have had no issues with the unit.

Excellent product if you have room

    By Notehead

Full-sized faders are simply much easier to get good results with. Having them motorized also makes a big difference in your workflow and results, and the same goes for not having to page your way thru banks of faders to get to the track you need. Design is clean and uncluttered, and build quality is very good. This unit was simply too expensive when it first came out, but thanks to the plethora of additional control surfaces that emerged, the price has dropped down to a reasonable point. It's worth spending the time teaching yourself to reach for the control surface instead of the mouse (and also to use keyboard shortcuts whenever possible). It radically speeds up your workflow and helps you execute your ideas before they get lost or "fuzzy" while mousing around or fussing with menus. Also it's great to be able to put more of your focus purely into the sound from your speakers, rather than the image on your display. The 2400 is a great unit and I'm very glad to have it on my desk.
