Features:

there has been alot of mixed reviews about this product saying it had horrible drivers and such. that is so far from the truth. yeah so its not a straight plug in and start recording. the driver software that came with the interface works just fine. obviously many people dont realize u have to go to the driver control board once downloaded and adjust the settings you need required by your daw. once that is done everything works without a gliche. so if u dont know your butt from a hole in the ground then dont get this but if u have common sense and a little bit of know how then grab it. i was convinced that there were no driver issues so i bought this used and is working great. the guy that traded this in probably has the same driver issue that everyone is com/plaining about

Tascam US-800

Features:

I did a lot of looking before I purchased this interface. I read that most of the Mac users had trouble with this but I bought it anyway. I have not had any trouble with this, as soon as I turned the power on my Macbook pro found it and asked if i wanted to use the US-800 as my input. 30 minutes later my band had its first song done.

Not Worth it

Features:

6 XLR inputs, 2 analog spidf for the price seems like a steal. No power button switch I will get to later.

Quality:

Physically, the unit seems solid. I little lighter than I imagined. The drivers on the other hand are a mess.

Value:

This would be a great value if the latency didn't render the US-800 completely useless.

Overall:

If your looking at this interface thinking its too good to be true, well you're right, it is. I tried this on my laptop (i5, 6 gigs of ddr3) and my PC (overclocked I5 with 8 gigs of ddr3) with acid 8, acid X1 and cube base LE5 and I couldn't get the latency to go under 4.5 ms. 4.5 ms of latency sounds like you are playing with a delay effect. Also I should mention 4.5 ms on this unit creates audio drops which can ruin your tracks so you must play on higher latencies if you want a decent take. I figured I could try playing without the use of monitor mode on the DAW. What I found was that the head phone jack plays everything on tracks 1 3 5 and the left and 2,4,6 on the right. Playing drums with head phones will make you want to vomit.

The TASCAM drivers are horrible. Everytime you want to use this interface you HAVE to make sure its not plugged into the USB port, unplug the power cord (no power switch) then plug in the USB and finally plug the power cord back in. This interface WILL NOT work if you don't follow these steps exactly as I mentioned. Took a couple of hours skimming through forums to get the proper procedure just to get this to work.

Even if you are just a beginner I wouldn't recommend this as its plagued with unavoidable latency and terrible driver support. I returned mine within a week.

Features:

Pretty basic features.. 6 XLR connections with their own personal controls. Phantom power. Best you are going to get for the price..

Quality:

I had bought a Focusrite Saphire 6 prior, but it had arrived DoA.. so after looking around I chose this item right here after careful research, and I don't regret my choice one bit.

Don't get me wrong, this is my first interface I've ever purchased, and first time setting up a home recording studio, so I'm in no way an expert.. here's my experience with the product thus far.

When I took it out of the package, I really liked the simple look it had. Seems well built, mostly made of plastic, but had a good weight.

Installation; read over all the instructions, followed the installation instructions exactly, and had absolutely no problems. Quick install, had it up and running in no time at all.

It's extremely easy to use, I have had 0 problems with this interface, I got this paired with the MXL 990/991 condenser mics, and I'm very happy with the quality of sound that I get from this product, at such a great price.

If you're interested in computer specs, this is what I'm running :
Windows 7 64-bit
Intel Core-2 Duo 2.13GHz

4 GB Ram

Creative EAX Advanced HD 4.0 audio card,

I was worried I would possibly run into some of the problems others have, but it was simply read instructions, install, and play. That simple, had no issues what so ever.

For the price, this is a steal. So happy that I chose to purchase this item.

Value:

As stated above, best bang for the buck in my opinion.

Overall:

I suppose the only downfall is lack of features, but it does what I need it to do perfectly.

Not good with Cubase

| Review By: Graeme Swallow | 4 months, 6 days ago

Features:

This device worked great with the Cubase LE5 bundled software. Then I made the mistake of upgrading to Cubase 6 (full version). Totally unusable. Every time I launch Cubase, I get a message from Windows saying the US-800 suffered a failure and can no longer be recognized by Windows. AWESOME! Even got the blue screen of death with a message pointing the finger at the US-800 drivers. (And yes, I was completely up-to-date with the latest driver versions.)

So I email tech support and all the support people are out at the NAAM convention, so I have to wait a minimum of 5 days for help. SCREW THAT! Send sales people to a convention and keep your support people doing their job of SUPPORTING customers.

I'm returning my device and buying something other than Tascam.
