OVERVIEW

Harmonies and effects made easy for guitarists.

Kick your vocals into high gear with VoiceTone Harmony-G XT. With improved harmony technology and reverb compared to its big brother VoiceLive 2, Harmony-G XT will improve your tone and surround your voice with pro effects and vocal harmony.

Easy Harmony Generation
The TC Helicon Harmony-G XT has a good ear for music. It listens to your performance and decides what harmony notes would sound best with your song. Connect your guitar and a mic, choose one of the presets, play guitar and sing. No special guitar pickups, pre-programming, or extensive musical knowledge are required in order to use this vocal harmony effect pedal.

Choose Your Sound
The TC Helicon Harmony-G XT puts you in control of a wide range of useful, exciting sounds. From a standing position you can switch through the five factory presets, each with a unique setting of effects, harmony and doubling and then choose the A or B effect within each preset. If you only need three presets or you want up to ten, this is configurable in Harmony-G XT.

The effect pedal lets you edit the presets easily and store them as your personal combination. The "FX" for each preset can be selected as well. Each of the categories of Hall, Room, Echo, Slap, Combi and SFX has three alternates. These are more than just add-on effects. These are the real deal from VoiceLive 2 including combinations of reverb, delay andmod (micromod) that will put you and your harmony voices in a professional sounding, immersive space.

Overdub Live
In a recording you can layer your lead melody to create extra thickness. Live, it's not so easy. The Double button on the vocal harmony pedal activates a realistic, overdub style doubling effect on your voice that you can use alone or in tandem with the harmony voices. You have four options for doubling you can choose from: The default one voice with tightest humanization, one voice with looser and more natural humanization, two tight voices, and two natural voices.

Better Overall Tone
Don't let that simple-looking Tone button fool you. Beneath is a professional signal chain. It includes such settings as Adaptive Shape, a unique boom reduction and brightness enhancer, Compression for smoothing peaks and gently raising low level detail, De-ess, which reduces harsh consonant sounds, Adaptive gate, which helps to reduce feedback while reducing harmonized chattering of instruments when you're not singing.

Once Tone is activated, the TC Helicon VoiceTone Harmony-G XT remains in effect when harmonies are on and off and even in Bypass so you can chat with your audience using the same great tone as when you sing.

Connect To Your Computer
The TC Helicon Harmony-G XT has a USB connection and a free, included web applet called VoiceSupport. It offers easy backup and restore of your presets to a computer, fast product registration and up-to-date news on software updates, and tips and tricks along with demo videos.

FEATURES

This is a simple yet feature packed unit, compact in size (think ham or turkey sandwich on regular sized sandwich bread), allowing it to fit in a guitarist's pedalboard as a useful addition. This is a ALMOST "plug and play" unit (not so brainiac or engineer driven as other TC Helicon or TC Electronics products) so your new product anxiety will be rewarded soon after you set it up. Be warned: this device, in my opinion, is not designed to mask, disguise or solve vocal dilemmas but to allow a decent pitch conscious vocalist to enhance and get the best of his/her existing voice. So..it allows someone with an average voice to sound pretty decent. And, add harmonies, you can get a full sound. Gadget tweakers will probably only be moderately satisfied as this is a unit with loads of 'PRESETS'; all parameter values are fixed. As far as durability, it seems very solid and has some heft / weight. Switches and knobs feel sturdy. The indicators and displays are bright enough but some are a bit tiny especially for 'older' eyes. Power supply...uuhh..not too durable..you may need a backup. As far as sound quality, the harmonies sound natural and although you can't tweak the voices extensively (such as: individual harmony voice volume, gender, vibrato, panning, individual fx for each voice) they sound pretty good out of the box. Harmony interval choices available are musical (except maybe octave up) : 3rd / 5th up or below, octave up/down, bass. As far as features, equalization, compression and pitch correction are a one button solution called 'Tone' with 'fixed parm' presets; they have pretty good 'real world' usable settings. Effects have their groupings: hall, room, delay, slap, combi and SFX; all sound decent and offer a few variations for each effect group (again 'fixed parm' presets). There's also a doubling function which thickens your voice (this too has a few options). And..phantom power is available!! The tuner is fast but a different color for 'in tune' (like green) would have been nice. In application, the unit can quickly decipher the key and create harmonies from your playing but a caveat really fringes on your musical role. If you are the front or main person playing guitar where you play full chords, the unit will be able to determine the key and find the right harmonies quickly. Now if you a part of an ensemble with other harmony instruments (keyboard, another guitar) where you don't necessarily play chords (at least enough to allow the unit to decipher the key), you will have to use the manual key selection which this unit does do. Manual key selection will also be the method for singers who don't play an instrument or play something other than guitar. This unit also can tune audibly to pitches other than 440hz.Compared to the previous generation unit (Voice Live), harmony voices sound more natural. Also, earlier units didn't have key sensing technology for guitar, so key input would have to be done manually (with your toes!!!) or an auto-key recognition device would have to be used (TC Harmony Control). That's a lot of toe tapping or additional equipment to bring along with all the regular gear. What do I wish this unit had? A main overall output knob would be good. Tap tempo for delays is always useful and expression pedal input to allow variable 'real time' parameter control during the performance would have been great. I guess if you need all that, get the VoiceLive 2.Bottom line: Good solid workable gig worthy unit in a compact package. Simple yet highly functional. And simplicity can be a good thing, with less brainiac options, having preset-based instead of parameter-based settings, the learning curve can be greatly reduced, making the G-XT gig-ready faster, making you focus more on your performance and when necessary making quick relatively painless adjustments on the fly.

It does a lot. I have been able to fool it into major chord vocal harmonies when I am playing a minor chord without even a lot of effort which can be a problem. I had to start using more barr chords to make sure the HC Telicon G XT recognized the chord and sometimes that doesn't help. I have to be a little careful how I sing. If I am not singing the root note, it tends to want to play the wrong vocal chord, even though I am playing the actual full barr chord on the guitar and it's an excellent, Taylor Doyle Dykes Anniversary Edition, Guitar.
I am happy with it. It does exactly what I was hoping it would do. I researched the products before I purchased one and it does just what it said it would do. I am very pleased with it. I like the fact that it came fairly quickly, thanks to Musician's Friend and that Musician's Friend talked me into getting the 3 year warranty. I will use it a lot and now I won't have to worry about it breaking due to excessive use.

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Harmony G-XT Vocal Harmony and Effects Pedal for Guitarists:

I am in my mid 50s. Gigging since I was 14. Presently I am in a 3 piece band playing guitar hero rock...zz top, srv, hendrix, trower...... over the past 6 months we have moved to playing more southern rock music which requires harmony. The bassist does the 3rd and I use the G-XT to give the 5th part harmony. It works great. Just keep the harmony subtly pesent and it doesn't sound fake. If you are reading this, you must be comparing units. I hade the TC Voicelive when it first came out...that unit that was a nightmare to program and use....in fact, the band bought 2 of them , we tried working with one.....sold the both of them. The Digitech Vocalist was high on my list because of the extra features it offered. BUT, side by side, the Digitech sounded FAKE compared to the TC unit. I use a Audix OM-5 with it on stage and it work fine....no bleed. It produces killer Jackson Brown harmonies, Skynrd (That Smell), Eagles, Pink FLoyd etc. I have thrown everything at it. It has got me thinking of doing a solo act on the side....it is that good!!!
REad the manual. Great features! Very usable effects.
TC Helicon quality is better than most. I hate the little wall wart adapters though....just me. I would rather see the power suppli in the unit with just an IEC cord. That goes for anything with a wall wart power adapter.
For what you get and the quality of the product, it cannot be beat!

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Harmony G-XT Vocal Harmony and Effects Pedal for Guitarists:

This might be the most useful bit of information. I researched and ordered one for a friend who is not very tech savy. When it arrived I set it up and showed him how it worked. What happened is I fell in love with it and ordered a second one for myself a few days later. I was concerned with just how natural it would sound and how the guitar would sound going through the device. My worries were completely alieviated. It sounds incredible and however the guitar I/O is buffered is perfect with no loading.

It's very easy to use and has the most functionality that could be stuffed in the small footprint. I love that all the paramaters are easy to get to and assinged to a button or knob, yet you can save presets. It tracks the guitar just fine, like the manual says you need to be clear about the root and third. If that isn't possible then manually set the key and tonality. It's way more solidly built than I expected. Finally, I'm by no means a great singer, but it has increased my confidence due to the mild pitch correction and doubling. Also, I have become much more aware of harmony and useful structure. The built in effects are very useful too.

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Harmony G-XT Vocal Harmony and Effects Pedal for Guitarists:

Just got this box and used it yesterday in rehearsal. Works great. Sounds a little processed in the harmonies, but once the band kicks in it blends really well with the music and helps the harmony vocals have confidence. The doubling effect also helps round out the vocal.
For anyone having issues with buzz through their amp, make sure you have pressed the "ground" switch on the back of the device (refer to your owner's manual). Also if you play tuned down a half step, read about how to change the harmony reference to match your key.

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Harmony G-XT Vocal Harmony and Effects Pedal for Guitarists:

Overall very impressed with the musicality and technology inside this box - at lower volumes this thing does great at listening to guitar chords and mapping accurate harmony or doubled voice. The downside = loud environment. Solo acts should have no problem with this, but in loud band setting the amount of noise in the room tricks the pedal and sometimes results in garbled sounds. Found a trick to work around this ... using a XLR-Y cable on the input place main vocal mic into one lead and a second mic through the other lead of the Y. The second mic will need to be revered polarity (can be donw via a little phase inveter barrel added inline with the XLR cable). The mics need to be similar and placed near the same distance from the ambient noise (ie. instrument amps / drums / etc...). This will serve as noise cancellation - anything heard by both mics will be eliminated and only your voice (as it is near one mic and farther from the other) will pass through thus reducing the garbled sound effect. It's not perfect but it makes the pedal useful in live band situations.

A friend has the Harmony G. The first time I heard him play a song it was a done deal. Gotta have one. I ordered the Harmony G-XT which is an upgrade of the G. The first one had problems after two weeks. MF took care of me and sent me another. So far so good. I just started playing with the different presets, but right out of the box I found one that I liked and that alone was worth the money.

This thing is really cool!! I have great 3 part harmony, 2 part, and with another singer and an easy adjustment, 4 part. The manual settings are not near as accurate as with running a guitar through the pedal. So take my advice, use a guitar with it. The harmonies dont seem to change key when you got from lets say, D to G. The harmonies pretty much stay in D unless theres a drastic change in the lead vocal. Overall though this pedal is amazing. I'd recommend it to ANYONE that needs backing vocals that dont already have them.

      I love this unit.
I even love practicing at home with my Harmony G-XT, it's like having my brother Darrel and my other brother Darrel singing harmony. I have only been at one gig so far but loved the additional harmonies since I entertained at a Seniors complex by myself.
Well built, sturdy and easy to program and save configurations on my computer. Like others, I wish the power supply was internal. A longer power cord would have been nice also - but I love the unit...

Guitarists say "thats cheating" and then I point to all their magic boxes , (hey if you're gonna plug in & voice is your instrument) .... >

This is the only voice harmonizer I have found that will track a bass guitar accurately. I used one of these that a friend had and I loved it. When I went to buy one they only had the Digitech. It was horrible! I returned it and waited on this one to become available again. You'll have people looking all over the place for you backup singers. It sounds great. Not like fake voices I've heard from some of the other units.
