Guitarist/singers can take advantage of H1²s uncanny guitar-sensing ability to keep your harmonies in tune. For non-guitarists, H1 has a key selector so you can dial-in harmonies that fit lots of songs.

As simple as plugging in your mic
Gaining access to the studio quality sounds and intelligent processing of VoiceTone singles is as simple as plugging in your mic and turning the effect on. Of course, you can always change the style or the amount of effect, but you shouldn't need to unfold the manual unless you're making a fire.

Strong family genes
Each VoiceTone single shares the same genes: a clean, quiet mic preamp that rivals high-end touring mixers, a die-cast metal case, rubberized no-slip base, studio quality analog to digital conversion, and the same quality processing you'd expect from our flagship vocal processors like VoiceLive 2.

All new Mic Control feature
The revolutionary and patent pending Mic Control circuit is built into each VoiceTone single pedal. This allows TC-Helicon's MP-75 (our sku# H70845) Modern Performance Vocal microphone˜s thumb switch to turn your VoiceTone single's effect on and off. Picture having the freedom to kick-in your vocal effect while working the stage, not gazing at your feet. It gets really cool when you chain multiple VoiceTone singles pedals together and control each one independently or turn them all on or off in combination.

Good work VoiceTone! You deserve a high score for this unit.
As a live rock singer & guitarist I have worked with a couple different Harmonizers over the years. If you want an Effects unit with Reverb, Delay, Pitch Correct, etc, this is not the pedal for you. But if you need a quality, stripped-down Harmonizer in a small package, this is the one!

PRIMARY FEATURES:
There is a Key Selector which can be manually set by the Performer or automatically set using Key Sensing Technology via the Guitar Thru jacks on the sides. Simply run your guitar thru the unit and it knows the key you are in at all times. Not only does this work amazingly, there is no tone or signal loss in your guitar chain! If you are a purist guitar player, as I am, this is absolutely a critical feature.

The Harmony Selector allows you to establish a 3rd or 5th up or down harmony with your main vocal. I always use 3rd up because most other harmonies sound manufactured or digitized. The 3rd up - and down for that matter - does not! I had the same results with the Digitech Vocalist Live unit so no knock against the H1. You can set a lot of different combinations using this know like 5 or 3&5 or 3 down or 3 or 3&5 or 5 up, etc... Again, the 3rd up is really natural.

The final adustment you can make is the Mix Selector that allows you to mix in the harmony with your own voice. This is a really strong unit so you may not need to go beyond 10 o'clock to get the right mix. That said, you can set this knob to completely eliminate the Primary vocal and just present a Harmony vocal by turning it to the far right position.

Compared to the Digitech Vocalist Live series, the H1 does not have near the features. However, the harmony controls and performance cannot be rivaled. If you want all the bells and whistles of the Digitech, it is a lot more money but well worth the investment if that is what you need. I don't. Additionally, those features are really only good in a practice space. No quality live Soundman is going to allow you to employ ANY features on your voice unit like other than Harmony anyway. And if you are attempting to use a Harmonizer in the studio you need to find some backup singers.
Built like a heavy duty stompbox. My only knock here is that the on/off stomp button does not click so I cant feel it when I am performing. I have to actually look at the light to see it is on. I was really shocked and disappointed because this is a no-brainer feature for any pro audio. This has got to be resolved with a Clicking On/Off Button! If the manufacturer reads this review, please please please replace this button!

That said, everything else on the unit is top notch! There is an easily removable rubber base that can be replaced with velcro if you have a pedalboard. You can see the lights in the day or night - a knock against Digitech because their lights are NOT easy to read in the daylight. Other than that it is a simple pedal.

My last knock is on the quality of the Harmonizer itself. First, understand the unit employs a Chromatic scale for its Harmonies. It grabs your note, places it into the key, and then determines where the 3rd or 5th harmony note is. As you sing up and down, the harmony changes with you according to the Chromatic Scale - which is like a piano, all half steps. If you sing out of key, it will sing out of key with you. It won't make you a better singer! With the Digitech I can "soften" the transition of the Harmony Notes so it doesnt sound like T-Pain. With the H1, there is no control over the harmony note transitions, so it sometimes sounds a little "pitch corrected" as it shifts notes. It does not happen enough to be concerned, but it is not perfect.
For the money, this unit is worth every penny and more! If you are a singer who needs harmonies, you must have this unit! Spend a whole lot more with the Digitech if you want additional features but don't complain when you have to lug around a HUGE stompbox when you only use the Harmonizer. Get the H1.

I use this pedal 4-6 times a week for live acoustic performances in bars & restaurants. What it does very well is provide great sound reinforcement when I need harmonies added while being very easy to set up. You literally plug in your guitar and sing along.

Where is lacks is in the exterior quality. From the very first day I bought it (one year ago) I had an issue with hitting the volume and key knobs while performing and having then move on me, drastically effecting the outputted sound. IMO The pots are too sensitive. To remedy this issue I was forced to duct tape the knobs in place to keep them from moving. The other problem I've experienced is the pedal tuning on or off without me pressing the pedal. It doesn't happen all the time, but every now and then it has a mind of its own.

Im giving it a 3 out of 5 because I do use it every week and it performs well but I don't think you should have to modify a pedal, especially with duct tape, to make it perform how it should have straight out of the box.

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Single H1 Intelligent Harmony:

The h1 is the best harmonizer I have ever used .It is simple and almost fool proof to use.I have used this pedal several times a week for over two years. The only problem I had was lately the pedal would activate when it was not stepped on. I cleaned the pedal and used some contact spray and it was good as new.I cannot say enough good about the h1. It is heavy duty, easy to use, and makes you become a better singer. My singing has improved dramatically since I started using it.But like any pedal it is a tool and not to be over used . Yes, I would tell anyone that needs harmonies to buy it .

Not As Easy To Use As I Had Hoped

    By Steve Maguire

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Single H1 Intelligent Harmony:

I had hoped that this would be a very simple way to add harmonies during live performances. Unfortunately, sometimes the harmonies sound great and sometimes they sound weird and unnatural. This might have more to do with my skills, or lack thereof, as a vocalist. If you are always spot on and don't change chords quickly (if using the guitar setting) then you might be OK. For me, it's too much effort and too distracting, so I'll be sending it back.

On the plus side, the unit is very well constructed and very easy to set-up right out of the box.

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Single H1 Intelligent Harmony:

I WAS very excited to get this product to replace my aging Akai Duobuddy... I like the small size, price and that it would determine that harmony I needed by the chord I played on my guitar... I was getting tired of dancing around my old pedal to tap out the key I needed. I also didn't need any of the bells and whistles that come on the more expensive units (reverb, effect, etc.), so this seemed perfect.

Unfortunatly the harmonies when used with the guitar plugged in jumped, yodeled and sounded completely unnatural. It was a little better when you'd dial in the key on the rotary knob, but having to bend over and manually change keys defeats the whole purpose of a simple pedal.

Also I have dealt with TC's service deptartment in the past for my first generation VoiceLive and they were extremely slow (2 months to repair) and my original unit stopped working again within a month of getting it back... not very well built for a unit that originally cost eight hundred clams.

This unit seems tough, but sound wise it doesn't even come close to my 15 year old Akai DuoBuddy.

    a nice addition

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Single H1 Intelligent Harmony:

Takes a little getting used to ..you'll get caught up listening to it and lose your place on guitar sometimes...but that makes it even more fun as it brings back the thrill of being challenged by things you've played for awhile that had become stale, or deleted from your set list for a lack of depth.
I have considered one of these for a while now, to add a little depth to acoustic solo performances. Owned it a week and gigged with it once and, I've found that leaving the wet/dry setting at around 10 o'clock on the dry side seems to give me what I need live without too much saturation, and adds a nice touch to vocals when used sparingly. The unit has a tight, noiseless switch and with the pre amp set around 12 o'clock +/- you get smooth tone , plenty of gain and no distortion. Getcha one..they're sweet.

Comments about TC Helicon VoiceTone Single H1 Intelligent Harmony:

I just got this today, so... But man, set it up JUST LIKE the instructions say and - wow. So surprised. I love it. The only minor irritation is that it warbles between two pitches (a right and wrong one) occassionally. But this is usually between chord strikes or if you are not "on" the mic as you should be. With a little practice, I think it will be fine - hardly noticeable now. Admitidly this is my only experience with harmony processor, but so far I'm impressed and I love it.

What can I say? This box is awesome. I use it regularly at church. The Harmony Box supplements my small choir and gives it a great sound and fullness. Parishioners think I have pre-recorded the harmonies, it is that realistic. I like the "high and higher" settings and use the guitar mode most of the time. One con it that is will follow your voice and if you are off key, the harmony will be off.
I am now able to do music I have always wanted to do but did not have the vocal background to back it up. You wont believe your ears when you hear it. Buy this box, skip harmony training and endless over dubbing on home recordings. Finally,
always buy your gear from Musician's Friend. They have never let me down in over 35 years.
