Okay so I just recieved this a week ago. And Im actually fairly impressed now that I've learned all the basics of it. First off I'll explain my reasons for buying it, then I'll explain what problems this has fixed, and lastly I'll say what I think needs to be worked on in my opinion. So I'm an engineer in training, and a songwriter. Im not a drummer. I can play the drums, but not well. I have two very good friends who are both AMAZING drummers, but both share the same fatal flaw - flakiness. Its a chore to get them to lay anything down because of their schedules and just plain laziness. I have an older Roland V-drums kit I usually use for demoing. I'm running Logic Studio through a MacBook Pro with 4gigs of ram. I bought this because of mainly two reasons; when I actually do get one of my drummers to lay down tracks, I need better samples than the V-drums and logics esx24 AND for mapping drums easily so I dont need them to show up as much. SD2.0 fixed both of these problems with tremendous results. Especially in the mapping area. Mapping these are a breeze, and it runs flawlessly in logic. I should warn everyone that this program is a lot bigger than they say, a basic install is only 4 gigs, but the full install is actually 20 gigs. And trust me, you want all 20. Now for my critiques... I dont like the crashes very much, I'm not a fan of most sabians, and all the cymbals are sabians. The hats and rides are great, but the crashes are lackluster. I'd really like to see some K customs in this thing, or even some piaste big beats. This isnt a big deal, purely cosmetic, but I'd like to see more options on the avatar, change the colors and configurations of the set a bit, maybe a different angle... and even... 3D? Yeah that would be cool. Lastly I think theres a lot to improve on the control surface, I'm used to doing things the "apple way" (ie: integrated and intelligently designed). Theres a lot missing in terms of editing, scrolling, mixing, etc. that makes things a lot more of a chore and the workflow slower. And my last critique, more midi files! I'm definitely going to have to buy the midi expansions from Toontrack. All in all though, I'd say this was well worth the money, and I'll be using this for a long long time to come. Now I just gotta get all those expansion packs!

Tried to install it over 3 days and spent over 13 hours with no results. Have all new equipment and experience over 5 years with my home studio but this one goes over all technical capabilities. Poor manual, poor information about the product on website, old information it´s all you get. Contacted customer support with poor results since they don´t answer enough or post answers to current problems. Answering takes anything from 1h to a regular waiting time to 24hours.

I just love it! I connected the software to my new Alesis DM10 controller, made some latency adjustements, and started recording right away. The "learn" feature made midi mapping a snap.
I don't know how any drum software could do more than Superior Drummer.
The sounds in Superior Drummer are absolutely top notch. I've already used them in several pieces I've recorded and they're simply amazing. I also dig the producer presets you can buy separately for only fifteen bucks!
While we all wish this stuff was cheaper, for what you get, the value is outstanding.

I believe this is needed in any home studio setup
You can do everything a real drummer can do with this once you learn the program.
The sound is Great! You can adjust it to any style or sound your going for, the different mic setup helps alot. I record real drum sets and this fully compares to studio drum recordings.
Great deal!!!

Downloaded Superior Drummer with ease. Then tried to open it up in pro tools. First problem (which should of been a red flag) was that I manually had to route the drum sample files into pro tools by making a path from download's to etc etc. This does not happen for everyone but I guess is a commen problem for superior drummer. Once I got it running got some great drum sounds but then all of a sudden my pro tools started bugging out. Crashes, runtime errors, DAE issues, etc. And I know it is not my computer because it is a brand new quad core pc with 8 gb of ddr3 ram. Anyways Pro tools was virtually useless all of a sudden even tho it has worked flawlessly for 4 months before superior drummer since I got the new pc. Uninstalled pro tools once and re installed it. Same problems. Then uninstalled it again and uninstaled superior drummer. Re installed pro tools and it runned perfectly. For some reason it does not run well on my system for no apparent reason. Not worth the money due to the hassel. Love addictive drums and steven slate drums, im sticking with them.
Great Features and awesome customizable ability
Sound Samples are awesome if it is running smoothley
In my opinion not worth anything because it completely screwed with my Pro Tools 9 set up.

I don't have a lot of patience or time to compose drum tracks from scratch on a piano roll view & I don't play drums so I was looking for a plug in with a large database of drum beats in many different styles to draw from when inspiration strikes. This software does deliver in quantity but lacks a bit in the quality department of some of the similar drum plug ins currently on the market. The factory presets sound a little artificial (very reminiscent of ez drummer) & require tweaking to bring them up to standard. There are plenty of tools to tweak with and achieve a polished quality product but if you're looking for quality out of the box you're better off with another drum plug in. I own all of the major drum plug ins from battery to ez drummer & yet time after time I keep coming back to addictive drums. This is just a personal preference but addictive drums deliver quality right out of the box plus allow for additional tweaking. The only downside is the small database of beats so you'll find yourself recycling the same beats at different tempos. Nonetheless, superior dummer is a pretty cool plug in especially if you're going to be using midi drums to trigger the sounds. For my purposes, I really wish I would've held out on this plug in but it may suit someone else's needs perfectly.

This software is so amazing. I am so inspired to create new material. The sounds are breathtaking alone. It hardly has any cpu usage on my computer and i run an iMac 2.66 Ghz with a Duo processor 6gb ram in cubase with at least 20 tracks. I thought for sure with superiors own mixer this would be cumbersome, but they proved me wrong. I love the flexibility in all of the samples. It is very easy to use and achieve a great sound. The first kit loaded is already panned and amazing dry. Once you start adding eq and some verb, wow you'll be hooked! I will never have a drummer again, at least for the studio... seriously. I recommend Metal Foundry, or any expansion!

for pop rock drums without a high quality drumset, a pristine recording space pro mics and pro line to tape, a great producer and a top studio drummer. you can't go wrong. The midi files recorded by Nir-Z are phenominal. I'm a songwriter and those files alone cut my overal demo prodution time down by half, plus i'm not a drummer so not having to fuss with playing them i can get right to writing without worrying about playing drums or spending hours sequencing the midi. just top notch.

Ok so I just got sd2 in the other day only to download it and have some major problems...there is no physical manual but one you can install on disc 1 of 5 it is a huge program. Ao huge i actually had to buy a new laptop my acer aspire 1640 couldnt handle the process speed of superior after going through the hassle of reinstalling on my new comp. The program works great but my problems with sd2 in itself is that there are simply not enough samples for the buck; about 3 kicks 6 snares only 1 set of toms, the gms in various sizes, 5 sabian crashes 4 sabian rides and 3 sabian hats. All in all it has one kick A#@ kit but thats it. The upgrades are out there but be prepared to spend more money. I recommend it if all you want is 1 solid expensive sounding kit.

This Toontrack Superior Drummer 2.0 has amazing sounding drum samples. It comes with EZ Player Pro so there is no problem for creating virtual drum tracks. There is one big problem with this software. If you are working with Pro Tools Le, you may have major problems getting this software to work through it. Over all, it is a great software and it is amazing for the price. There is just that compatibility issue.
