Buyers remorse

By Timothy Larson

from Nebraska

Comments about Venue Lighting Effects Dual Scanner Pack 250W:

Overall you can do a lot with them and the price is cheap, however be careful. We've have a lot of trouble with them.
It can do a lot but its hard to control. We tried running them off a chauvet obey 70 and had trouble running them sound active with the rest of our lighting. Its almost all or nothing with them. Also for starting out they're a touch confusing to program and the manual isn't much help.
Within 6 months we've already burned out to bulbs and now the leads managed to short out on one of the units. In the process of trying to contact venue to see what can be done.

Caution Before Buying

By Charlton Combs

from Dallas, TX

Comments about Venue Lighting Effects Dual Scanner Pack 250W:

Although it may sound like I am being hard on the product, I really do like it. I understood what I was getting when I purchased it because I researched it heavily. I am just pointing out all the flaws so you know exactly what you are getting without the painstaking research.

Also, the controller makes a really loud beep whenever you press a button, even with loud music (105 db) I can still hear it very clear. I would be a problem in lets say... a church, or a father daughter dance at a wedding.

Buy this package for the scanners, not the controller, they are great scanners for the price, and if you get creative with programming, you can end up with some killer effects.
What all can be said about the features, I mean, you get two scanners and a controller... great, but realize that the only DMX channels are Pan (X), Tilt (Y), Color, and Gobo. This is good, but once you see that you want to use a heart gobo, project it on the wall, and see it is upside down and there is no rotation option, you become limited on what gobos you can use. You are limited to using abstract shape gobos with this product.
Horrible quality, the build of the units is great, but the manual has several misprints that I immediately saw as mistakes. The manual says that the controller is a 4 channel DMX controller, meaning that you would program your lights DMX channel 1,5,9.... and so on, but what it meant to say is the lights are 4 channels, and the controller is 6. That really threw me off at first, but I just decided to chunk the manual and go with what I know about DMX and I was fine. The lights need to be to be addressed 1,7,13... and so on. It was fine for me because I have dealt with DMX extensively, but if you are new to lighting or DMX, you may need some extra help. Also, the controller does not do well when you add other fixtures besides the two scanners. I added a third light (Chauvet COLORstrip) and the controller started sending out wrong info, the saved scenes would be different than programed, but only by a little (i.e. the gobo would be different, the light would twitch, the color would be wrong). Once I added a fourth fixture (Chauvet LED Palatte) It would stop saving scenes, and I had all memory wiped clean several times, which is frustrating when you pre-program for a gig and it is not there when you get on site and you look like you don't know what you are doing in front of the client.

Overall, these are good scanners for starters, but buy a new controller.
Great Value for the money, although they are limited on features, you get what you pay for, just be prepared to buy a new controller, especially if you are going to have more lights. I would recommend the Chauvet OBEY 40 which has a built in mic (for real) unlike the the mic that is not on the controller with the venue scanners, although the manual says it is.

Awesome! But...

Comments about Venue Lighting Effects Dual Scanner Pack 250W:

These lights are the best! They have all the features you need. And and Good Bang for your Buck!But... The Controller is hard to use. It is missing features that the manual says it has. I have contacted customer service about this and have yet to get a response. But I'm still satisfied with my purchase.

DMX Controller DOES NOT have a built in mic.

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Venue Lighting Effects Dual Scanner Pack 250W:

Contrary to what even Venue's own manual says, the controller does not have a mic (confirmed though email with their customer service). The lights do have mics built in, but the only way to switch them from DMX control to using their mics is to change a dip switch on the lights. Not something you want to have to do in the middle of a show!
