I'm not a drummer - I'm a guitarist / home recording enthusiast. I bought these headphones to keep the click track from bleeding through and getting picked up by my mics when recording my Martin acoustic. For that purpose, these are perfect! Very good isolation (see video). Cord is only 6 feet long, not 12.5 feet. Long enough for me, but not what description says. Bass is so-so, but good enough for monitoring my recordings.

I got these same head phones a couple of years ago, they where great head phone, I used them for playing drums and I was more then satisfied with them. but they finally gave out, so I decided I would buy another pair, I got them and they sounded like junk! practically all the low end was gone from them. because the low end was gone it made it very difficult to hear what the drum track in the song was while playing to it.
I decided to fix up my old pair to compare, there was a world of difference! these head phones sound distant and lack bass, while the older copy made for a great blend and a high presence. Its the same price as the old pair only now its audio quality is allot worse.

The speakers distort BAD with any bass. Finally an entire side went out.
Bought GC's pro coverage for 2 years, they went out after a year (2nd pair within 2 years), now I have to ship them back and I lose the other year of coverage I paid for. Because these things are such bad quality, I thought pro coverage would help, but actually after 3 bought pairs, the amount I would spend on pro coverage is a whole new set.
Don't waste your time or money! These are JUNK!!!!

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

Overall, they do not serve the purpose that they have been pushed to. I am a drummer and my ears actually hurt from the out side ambience that the head phones seemed to amplify like a barrel. They are supposed to keep the noise out right? I am well educated on this subject, and these are not for musicians.
Owned these for about 7 yrs. Still work and in new condition.
The sound volume is very low and not good quality.
I value them so much, I have them in the same place I put them two or three weeks after I bought them. In a box. Lesson learned.

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

I just bought these headphones because I was worried about my hearing. I must say these are one of the best buys in the musicians world. I will describe them perfectly, picture the muffling headphones you get at a hardware store with speakers in them. Yes, they muffle the sound that much. As a test I played my drums as hard as they can with the volume about a half of the way up on my stereo. The volume still didn't sound as loud as the drum recording on the CD.

          Original are much better!

          By Charles Elder

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

I have the original Vic Firth headphones that these replaced. I also have the original DB22s. I bought the original headphones around 1996. Recently they have developed a cord issue. So, I thought, "Great! I can just replace them with the new model, and they don't cost as much anymore". Well, they don't protect as well, fit as well, or make the acoustic sound of the drums sound sweeter. I remember when Rod Morgenstein first was interviewed about the original ones that he helped develop that he said he preferred to practice with them on because they protected your hearing and gave the sound more depth, and I completely agree with that on the original ones. The DB22 may still be the same as my original ones which create a similar sound. they just have a slightly lower rating and no speakers. I would recommend to get a pair of DB22s and some ear buds and stay away from these.

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

Since there are very few options for iso phones in this price range I find myself buying these again and again. Why? Because I'm an idiot I guess! These are built to break within 50 to 100 hours of use. If you don't believe me I'll show you a photo of my broken pile of these pieces of total garbage. The last pair, and I mean LAST I will ever buy gave out after 6 months in the studio. The warranty is only for 90 days! They obviously know it's a bad product but that it will usually last at least 90 days, which they will unless you are tracking with them every day. They are very difficult to take apart and fix on your own. I have watched some you tube videos on people rigging them to last longer but that just goes to show you how lame they are! I would like a lot of money back from these guys. Don't do it!

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

I've been drumming over thirty years, and recently had a breakthrough in live sound production with these headphones. I blame myself for not realizing that my cans were bleeding so much my live mixes sounded like mush. I control the mixer remotely from my drum kit, so it's always difficult to pick out certain items with crummy cans. I bought these, and BAM! There was the sound I was always looking for! I'd have to say this is the best deal going at this price point. I plan on buying a lot more, enough to fill my 10 channel headphone amp.

While a good idea to keep out outside noise they can irratate the ears on long term wear. You will need to take them off your ears for a while due to compact feel around the ears. In general the sound is not crisp and clean, sound is a little muffled, especially higher pitches.

Why did we wait to buy this?
Drum tracking so much easier. Sounds fine. Much better than standard headphones that don't block sound. We're happy. I can't speak to whether or not older versions were better. These work. They make recording drums a much better experience than standard headphones that don't block the sound.
Had a blast trying them, both drummer and I had nothing but good things to say. We both took turns trying them on a kit and loved it. Was nice to hear things at a nice volume instead of straining to hear a little guitar while tracking and NOT hearing drums well. These things work. Great experience.

Overall, I'm thankful that Vic Firth created a healthy balance between the highs and lows instead of flooding them bass. Tremendous improvement in build and sound quality in comparison to my older model Vic Firth headphones!! Great Product!

My first impression was they were going to be too isolating and I wouldn't be able to hear the drums good enough to play along to my favorite bands. I was wrong they give just enough protection to not have the cymbals blow your eardrums out and saves you ear pain... I highly recommend if you can't afford custom in ear Isolation monitors these are a very recommended choice to save your hearing..

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

They're my second pair. The cord wore out. They are bulky but... They don't need batteries on long flights. I just plug them in and they filter out the airplane noise just beautifully. I have no problem watching a movie on the plane. Like I said...They are bulky and tough to nap while flying. So... Pros - No need for batteries and Con- Bulky. They work GREAT for noisy plane flights.

Comments about Vic Firth SIH1 Isolation Headphones:

These are under rated. They block out some very loud live room sounds and allow the wearer to hear a lower volume mix of good quality with minimal live room bleed. If you are using these for recording mix downs then you will be hard pressed to get a mix that translates well. They aren't designed for that, they do what they are designed to do and are affordable.

I bought these headphones a few years ago. They still work fine, but here are some of the pros and cons:

                              Pros:
                              1) Fairly comfortable, and they block out a decent amount of noise while playing drums

                              Cons:
                              1) Audio quality is poor, not at all balanced sounding. Mine are too bass-heavy but I've also heard some people say it is too treble-heavy, meaning that the quality control for this product is pretty bad.
                              2) Even when your music is set to max volume, these headphones aren't very loud. The fact that they isolate the sound better than other over-ear headphones is kinda cancelled out by the fact that they don't get very loud. I still can't hear the music very well over the sound of the drums even when set to max volume.

I wouldn't recommend this product. If you are a drummer, the best "cheap" solution is to invest in a decent pair of earbuds and then buy a pair of noise-protection earmuffs at your hardware store. This product attempted to combine these two ideas into one, but fell short.

great for isolation, but not at all durable. left channel dies on every pair - often quickly. sometimes resoldering can fix, but buy the extended warranty.

Don't buy these if you are going to use them regularly. They will break even when treated well and you can't take them apart to fix em!
