Overview

125GB orchestral library re-creates an authentic orchestral performance.

The Vienna Symphonic Library Pro Edition Performance Set GIGA lets you play legato in real time and perform runs and repeated notes with absolute authenticity and change tempos easily. The Performance Set features creative capabilities that far surpass the limitations of conventional orchestral sample libraries for unparalleled realism.

Why the Performance Set?
Vienna Symphonic Library founder Herb Tucmandl and his team of producers analyzed and deconstructed the orchestral performance and realized re-creating an authentic orchestral performance required unhindered access to hundreds of articulated nuances--the subtle bits that are the earmarks of human expression--as well as flawless multisamples. While great multisamples can be very convincing, these Performance Elements add the final touch of realism to achieve unheard-of authenticity.

Performance Elements are different than simple phrases, which are commonly used in traditional sample libraries to mimic real performances. While phrases were recorded for the Vienna Symphonic Library to create the Performance Elements, the elements are very different from the inflexible, fixed recordings of other libraries. Small addressable samples, or phrase-slices, can be accessed individually with the help of the Performance Tool. You're not locked in to the compositional ideas of the sample library producer by having to use long, immovable recordings. The Performance Set affords all the flexibility of multisamples combined with the realism of phrases.

How exactly do you access and use these Performance Elements? Since many of these elements occur between notes, or after a note, it's often impossible to use them conventionally by triggering a keyboard. So intelligent software had to be developed to analyze your keyboard performance in real-time and automatically trigger the proper nuance at the right time to complete the passage. The innovative Legato Mode, Repetition Mode, and Articulation Mode that are provided in the Performance Tool are the first examples of this astounding "smart-play" capability, and there are many more to come.

Contents:

¢ Legato Performances: Up to 3 dynamic layers, with and without vibrato, with and without slides (strings only). Also includes legatos for strings con sordino and portamento legato on other strings

¢ Repetition Performances: 5 and 9 repeated notes in different tempos, velocities, dynamics and playing techniques, e.g., legato, portato, staccato

¢ Repetition performances for strings con sordino (legato, portato, staccato

¢ Bowed vibrato repetitions with different velocities and dynamics

¢ Fast staccato repetitions with constant and progressive dynamics

¢ Octave runs in major, minor and chromatic scales, up- and downwards (spiccato and legato for strings)

¢ Grace notes (appoggiaturas): half and whole tones, up and down (up to the octave for woodwinds)

¢ Solo violin: Legato, detache and spiccato performances

¢ Tremolo performances in different intervals

¢ Glissando performances for strings, clarinet, horns, trombones

¢ Upbeats in different velocities and tempos for brass

For the legato performance elements, every interval from a minor second to an octave was recorded upwards and downwards from each note in the instrument's range. The samples' starting notes were removed, so the beginning of the sample is the conclusion of its preceding note. The result is stunningly realistic and fluid musical performances.

Repetition performances were sampled on each note of the instrument's range and are separated into individual performance elements. This means you have direct access to every single note in the repetition performance, great for changing tempo and creating custom variations. Using key switching, different parts of the phrase can be selected in real-time.

Octave runs were recorded up and down, in the fastest controllable tempo. Particularly with string groups, you get the typical random effect that can never be achieved with single note samples. Here, too, there is a variation where the starting notes were removed in order to give you the freedom to select combinations of runs and to create natural transitions from note to note.
