OVERVIEW

Portable, convenient, and packed with power and effects!

The durable, lightweight Yamaha EMX512SC 12-Channel Powered Mixer has dual 500W amps, 16 Yamaha SPX effects, built-in graphic EQs, and loads of input options.

Flexible power
The power mode switch lets you use the dual power channels as a stereo amplifier, or use one channel for the main speakers and one for the monitors, with separate monitor mix setup via the channel MONITOR controls.

SPX digital effects
16 Yamaha SPX effects-including reverb, echo, chorus, flanger, phaser, and even distortion--let you add the finishing touches to your live presentation.

Graphic EQs
Graphic equalizers are provided for both the main and monitor power channels so you can effectively control feedback or tailor the sound to match the room and program material.

Input options
The EMX512SC offers a total of 16 input channels-8 for monaural microphone (with phantom power) or line input, plus 4 pairs that can function either as monaural mic inputs or stereo line inputs--providing a versatile mix of input capabilities for a wide range of applications. If only mic inputs are needed, you can use up to 8 mic channels. If you want to play recorded background music during breaks using a stereo input, and have a keyboard player with stereo outputs, you still have 6 mic/line inputs available. If all 4 stereo pairs are used to handle stereo line sources, you still have 8 channels available for mono mic or line input. It's a versatile system that can adapt to your needs with ease!

Yamaha Speaker Processing
Yamaha Speaker Processing (YSP) provides optimized matching with speakers, for clean, solid reproduction that will deliver your music with maximum impact.

FCL (Feedback Channel Locator) system
The Yamaha FCL (Feedback Channel Locating) system makes locating and eliminating feedback easier than ever. FCL indicators provided on each input channel indicate which channel feedback is occurring in, so you can identify it visually and adjust levels or EQ as required. Another handy features is a Standby switch that mutes channels 1 through 8 so that, for example, after rehearsal or between sets you can mute performer's inputs 1 through 8 without having to change fader settings, while stereo inputs 9 through 12 remain active for background music playback.

Durable, lightweight design
At only 22 pounds and equipped with conveniently located handles, the EMX512S is easy to transport. It's built to withstand the rigors of the road and deliver reliable performance, night after night.

I've been using the Yamaha EMX 512 for about 8 years now, and this mixer can take what ever you want to throw at it. I use this with 2 Peavy 115's, and two 12' monitors for live shows.

DJ: For DJ gigs, it's all about the power and the EQ. For big shows, I barley turn this up to 4 or 5, and it crushes. I've used this unit for proms, clubs, weddings, it's still going strong.

LIVE SHOWS: I love the fact that this unit has two seperate channels for so I can do a separate mix in the monitors. I usually run 4 speakers at once with this unit, (2 for the mains, 2 for monitors) and I still only need to turn it up to about 5. (Going past 6 will start to peak). It has decent effects, I love the Delay on this. The only thing I wish this unit had was an auxillary imput, so I could utilize a compressor...

The most important thing that your should know about this mixer is that it is made for war!!! You cannot kill it!!! I've had beer poured on it, dropped it, bumped it, scratched it, this mixer is made for gigging and I wouldn't even bother writing this if I didn't believe in it. If you want a high powered, quaility mixer, there is no other alternative.

This powerd mixer has a great sound, good effects and plenty of output power. But I'm marking down significantly for reliability and the poor service we received from Yamaha when we sent the second one in for repair. They held it for 9 months before they finally told us it would be better to purchase a new one than pay for the repair, adding that the defective relay was addressed and is no longer a problem.. which turned out to be untrue. We are moving on to Peavey.
Great features for a mixer of this size. I especially like the dual function compression knobs that raise the output level as the compression is increased. The YS processing also makes the head sound larger than it is.
Here's the problem. This mixer has a defect. It could also just be a cheap quality part. It has an internal relay switch for the power on and off. The pushbutton power switch is connected to a relay that fails after frequent use. The company I work for has purchased 3 of these powered mixers, one after the other (first one was a EMX 212). They all failed the same way. The relay stops working. The power comes on for a split second after you push the button then the relay disengages, no power. However, this only occurred after rigoruous use. The heads were used 6 days a week for 4 hours each day with different groups of duos and trios using them throughout the week. The first two failed after one year. (after warranty expired). The last one failed after just 4 months.
The features for the price of this mixer are a pretty good value if you are not counting on using it constantly.

Awesomely Practical Powered Mixer

Comments about Yamaha EMX512SC Powered Mixer:

All of the features I listed basically give it praise. I bought this to downgrade from a HUGE PA that I used to use; 2 racks with separate amps, eq's, FX processor, crossover, and rack-mount surge supressors, cables galore, and a huge 24 channel (no more than 8 needed anyway) unpowered mixer. It was extremely expensive, hard to set up/break-down, and it took a whole trailer to haul it all. No longer do I have to deal with all of that with this single unit. It has all that the 2 racks and unpowered mixer have and is about the size of a printer! I use this with 2 Yamaha A15 speakers and Sound Bridge floor monitors and it sounds awesome! It makes gigging so much easier.
Incredibly easy to use, transport, and set-up/break-down. 8 channels of XLR inputs all with 3-band EQ, 2 RCA inputs available, Speak-on and 1/4" speaker outputs, built-in effects, easy to use EQ's for monitors and mains, plenty of power, and it's only 17 pounds!
Yamaha - the name says it all...
This seems like a great deal, I actually got it for about $80 less having bought it as a condition 1 used product from MF. It said there were scratches on mine and there aren't any that I can see so I lucked out big time. Even at the cost of getting it Brand New I still highly recommend it.

Versatile "bang for the bucks"!

By Charles Parks

from Raleigh, NC

Comments about Yamaha EMX512SC Powered Mixer:

Highly recommended for practice, and small venue usage for all types of music and bands.
Of course, if you're like us, you're not going to be able to run your entire drum kit through this board alone, along with vocals and guitars! But if it's just a practice or a small venue, acoustic drums wouldn't likely need to be amplified.
Was very pleased with the EMX512SC mixer. It performed great in all situations, even when much was demanded of it. Hats off to Yamaha for packing all the versatility into this affordable package of power and control.

Used it first to power two Yamaha BR-15 cabinets for 4 vocal mics, an acoustic/electric guitar, and a keyboard. (the choice of XLR and 1/4 inputs helped out). My use of it grew to fully loaded with vocal mics, keyboard, several guitars, and still had a channnel left to run our MP3 players for house sound during down time, and song checks during practice. The output from it was later split between the BR-15's as mains, and the monitor output to a seperate power amp which ran 4 BR-12 monitors. This mixer held up to some pretty heavy rock practice usage and never showed any weakness as long as you didn't ask for something it wasn't designed for.

This unit allows you to sufficiently control the level of main output, monitor output, and on-board effects on each channel, as well as fine tune each channel's equalizer to avoid feed back or sound quality issues. Great control and versatility for such an affordable product.

The only small "downside" noticed was in the effects area, which was a little disappointing. But most guitarists and vocalists have their own 'special" effects blends that just can't be matched by the level of effects built in to this mixer. So, perhaps we were expecting a bit too much from it. We just relied on our off-board effects for those who desired more than it could deliver, and everything worked out fine.
Overall, very satisfied with Yamaha's quality level, as evidenced by our subsequent purchase of other Yamaha P.A. gear, and instruments. Only wish the effects were of higher quality, but guess you can't have everything at this price level!
Awesome value for what you pay here.

Comments about Yamaha EMX512SC Powered Mixer:

I have been a staunch Mackie Power mixer buyer until now! I own three Mackies (2)808M's and 1 PPM1008. 1st 808m lasted me 11 years (Greg Mackie still owned the Company). 2nd 808M lasted four years and my 18 month old PPM1008 is in for warranty service.

I was hesitant to buy the 512SC but did so on the advice of some Pro Audio guys I know. They were not wrong. The EMX is wonderful for a 500w mixer and in my opinion blows the PPM1008 away.

I do mostly solo work but last nite I used it with my trio and received sevreal comments on how good the sound was. This system is loud if you want it be, clear and punchy as well. This system has a lot of head room.

As I said I am so used to Mackie Power Mixers, so the Yamaha EMX512SC is taking me alittle bit to learn how powerful this is. Mackie I think has lost a customer.

Lots of Power for the Money

    By Christopher Eckert

    from Pennsylvania

Comments about Yamaha EMX512SC Powered Mixer:

I am very happy with these amps; the one I already had and this one I just bought. The sound is good, effects are decent and for small to medium gigs, they are perfect.
I have a EMX212SC mixer and love it but I needed a little more power so I bought the EMX512SC. They are reliable amps with really nice features for the cost. I especially like the compression features that the EMX212SC does no have.
I have never had any problems with the EMX212SC I already own and I know the EMX512SC will be just as reliable.
I bought a restock unit so the price was very good, but even at list price, you get a lot for your money. I could have spend a couple hundred more on a Mackie, but I'm not sure it would have done anything more than this little box does.

Comments about Yamaha EMX512SC Powered Mixer:

I own one of these mixers which I have used with several different bands ranging from hard rock, country, to classic rock. It pairs nicley with the Yamaha C115V speakers and A12M monitors. The mixer has held up thru over a couple hundred shows and being thrown in and out of a van several times a week. It was mostly used for small to medium sized venues but it also worked great for smaller outdoor gigs. With all the use the mixer has gotten I have never had the slightest problem with it. I talked my church into getting one for their special events when they need something portable and loud.
This mixer is super light and super loud with plenty of features. Will make even the crapiest band sound good.
Its a Yamaha. Great produt and support.
Terrfic value for all of the features you get.

Comments about Yamaha EMX512SC Powered Mixer:

You can't find a more versatile and compact unit. This is feather light at 22 lbs at 500 watts per side, we use it in conjunction with Peavey PR series 15s and PR subs. Pound for pound it's the most powerful system that you can easily carry up and down a flight of stairs. We've used this system for indoor gigs of 1500 square feet/ several hundred people or smaller, to outside festival gigs. I firmly believe all 500 watts per side are present and accounted for and not over rated in the specs. We play Rockabilly so our sound isn't over powering, but there is plenty of headroom to spare. Sound is great quality and there's little to do but plug everything in and make some quick adjustments for the room. It's the perfect choice for anyone performing in small/ medium venues or small festival type situations and don't want to be burdened with a lot of set up. It also has non powered outputs so that you can use an external amp if more power is required. We've used ours on a regular basis for about 5 years, never a problem, never a worry. It's a great unit.

      EMX512SC Yamaha Powered Mixer Review

      By Albatross

      from Milwaukee, WI

      See all my reviews

      Ask me a question

Comments about Yamaha EMX512SC Powered Mixer:

Overall I rate 9 due to very high quality standards, and the ease of use. Price is a bit high for a basic model like this, and it lacks some extras that the larger flat consoles have, but it's still a very nice PA for this price range. I use it for practice and also as a backup at shows in case our regular larger one should ever experience any problems.
This is a relatively basic powered mixer which doesn't have all the bells & whistles that a flat console with sliders will offer. But it's very functional and words great as either a practice PA or small venues. Plenty of power with two 500 watt amps. Clarity is great if you take the time to dial in the right tone controls for each channel. Only one effect can be used at a time, but for the price and considering the overall quality of the PA, it's still a great buy.
Quality is virtually unmatched for this price range. Yamaha is a respected name and they don't put out any garbage. As noted above, clarity of channels and tone you can achieve is very good.
Try to find this on sale or wait for a sale to come around. The price is kind of a lot to pay for a basic powered mixer, but in this case, you're partly paying for the Yamaha name. It's kind of like Gibson guitars....if you want the quality you have to pay for it. It would be nice if the price were less, but that's life.

This is the star player of a package deal I bought from MF. Sounds great. Set up is a snap. It powers two 15" 2 way mains and two 12" 2 way monitors or it runs all four in perfect rockin' stereo. I use it for band rehearsals and to DJ parties. I love it. Plenty of power for my needs. I will add a powered sub in the future but sounds great without it. MF was very helpful and not pushy. After a couple of days to think it over and the holiday special I recived I soon returned to buy and I'm very happy with the whole package.

Not had it very long but I have tinkered with it at home for many hours so far. Plan on gigging with this for small bars and such it will fit great. Vocals sound clear through several different mics I've tried, plugged iPod into it, sounds great. I even tried a pocket amp/DI box that I have with a Gibson Les Paul, sounded good too. My Takamine with Cool Tube Pre-amp sounds awesome through it. So far nothing bad to say at all. I like it a lot.

This little mixer really humps. It is even better in sound quality than my bigger system was. I was running a yamaha mixer ganged with eq's and using a yamaha p7000 amp in a travel case. This little jewel with the compressors and the power just out performs the big rigs. I will not lug all that weight around again when I can get by with just 22lbs. YAMAHA HAS GOT A WINNER.

Comments about Yamaha EMX512SC Powered Mixer:

The company I work for has this mixer and the smaller EMX212s(which is a bit underpowered). Both of them have exhibited the same curious problem. But first, I want to say that we've been using this mixer for well over a year now almost everyday for 3 to 4 hours, outdoors, and occasionally getting rained on and for the most part its still running strong. Never had a problem with any of the features. The curious problem is that every few weeks the mixer wont power up. Both of the models do the same thing. It doesnt matter where its plugged in. We've tried many different circuits and locations. But it does 'seem' to be related to humidity. When the power button is pushed in the mixer lights up for about 1 second then shuts of(button stays in. Sometimes half a second, sometime 2 or 3 seconds. There appears to be some sort of relay inside that trips off. You can hear it clicking. The only rememdy is to continue pushing the power button on and off for about 15 minutes until the power stays on. Once it stays on its good to go for the rest of the night. We even sent one in for service but the techs couldnt reproduce the problem so nothing was done. The mixer has plenty of output power and the compressor is a nice feature that increases compression and output level with one knob (simple to use). This is still a good value if you dont need a pan knob. And the YS Processing makes the head sound much bigger than it is.

Comments about Yamaha EMX512SC Powered Mixer:

Purchased my first one in April of 2009, and second one in July of 2009. Both of these units need service now. I have never dropped either one. First, I noticed that during a four hour gig, the volume knob needed to slowly be increased to keep the same decibel level. Then the lights above the main volume all but went out. One of the Yamahas now makes a digitized noise when playing anything through it (kind of a phazer effect). I had talked two other DJ's into purchasing this mixer and one of them stated that they have noticed the need to increase volume slowly as the gig gets closer to it's end. This seems to be to much of a coincidence to me. Sorry I'm not a grammar major but the information is factual. I purchased a Peavey this week and am crossing my fingers. Now I can start getting my other three (yes three, but only two are the EMX512SC mixers) Yamaha mixers that I have purchased in 2009 to an authorized service center.

I jumped into music cold never played a musical instrument ever. The radio is all that I ever played. I do weddings, family reunions, back yard parties and Relay for Life events. I work it hard and have always had a backup, once I got sick left the amp in my truck with the window down and it poured rain that night I poured water out of it thinking it was ruined but six months later I fired it back up and it works fine. It is nothing for me to play it for six hours or more
