Very Truthful Monitors

By Jordan Rowan

from Orange County

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

I've owned a pair of these Yamaha HS80m monitors for two years as well as a pair of HS50m monitors (which sound very similar except for the low end and the lower mids around 200hz being more prominent and clear in the HS80m). I stumbled upon these monitors during my quest to find the NS10s that so many mixing engineers and studios have used for years. NS10s don't hide the bad stuff like say a pair of ADAM A7's do. They expose it. The NS10s do a great job at translating mixes accurately onto other sound systems. With the HS80m monitors, the goal was to recreate a workhorse similar to the legendary NS10s in a new powered version. The result? An unbelievable monitor and a very accurate attempt by Yamaha. The optional EQ adjustments on the amp itself give you many variations including the ability to recreate the natural EQ of the NS10s by boosting the 2khz frequency. I can always depend on my mixes translating to any sound system accurately and consistently. I am able to pick out bad frequencies with ease. No sound is hidden or colored, only exposed. This factor makes my decision making in mixing very accurate and efficient. If you're contemplating buying these monitors vs. another pair: No other powered monitor will give you this great of accuracy for your recordings and mixes.

better buy than KRK rockets

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

overall they are a pretty accurate monitor for the money. i would recommend them.
these have all the features i need. i have everything set to flat and they sound true for the space i use.
quality seem good to me. they seem to be well built.
i think this is the best bang for the buck in this class. my first purchase were krk rocket 6's. they had almost no high end production. my mixes would be all over the place. i think they suck. the yamaha's are superior. they give a much more accurate representation of what is actually in the mix. they smoke the KRK rockets.

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

I have used many monitor sets in my pro studio, over the years and am rarely surprised by anything. I decided to give these a go, after my MSP7's arrived blown and I am glad I did. The stereo field with these monitors is incredibly wide, making it really easy to see your music in 3D. You can tell exactly where each instrument is sitting in the mix from left to right, front to back and up and down in the mix. With this information, it is very easy to find any clashing and sit your instruments where you want to.There arent many monitors on the market that allow you to do this, that dont cost thousands of dollars each. What Yamaha has given you here, is a gift. Spacial listening, without coloring. Making the listening experience wide, but flat. I suggest buying the HS10W Sub with these speakers. While they provide plenty of bass themselves, the extra thump you get from the sub, allows you to adjust the low frequencies perfectly for those listening with and without subwoofers on their home and car radios.I cant say enough good things about these monitors. You get a lot for your money and more. Perfect for the home studio on a budget or the multi-million dollar studio wanting wide ears to hear and see your music through.Buy now!

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

The frequency range and clarity on these monitors are amazing! Provide VERY accurate mixes that don't hide any imperfections. I do not own the sub but so far I haven't really needed it. I highly suggest getting these for a studio of any size. Great buy!

So good i didn't produce a thind for a month.

By Hallo PROductions

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

WoW thats all I have to say. Music has never sounded this much better. all I ever wanted was to be able to hear a true reflection of the sound I was creating without having to go back and tweak because I remembered that one day I played my song in the car and i sounded unbalanced. Safe to know that now the mixes are better than ever, I could even pick up the mistakes in the songs I wrote on other audio reference monitors. Thank you Yamaha. Word of advice take some time to lean your monitor. listen to good and bad music. Then play around with mixes see what you get from boosting and cutting the wrong places, then you will get used to the right audio and make good music.

For the Hiss Problem

By Pianist163

from Orlando

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

For the person with the hiss problem: You are plugged into un-conditioned electricity and are experiencing the infamous 60 cycle hum that comes with AC current. Plug into a rack-rider of some kind and your problems should be fixed. Great monitors, flat response, very natural sound. Best for the money, of course they dont compare to upper level digidesign, they're 1000 dollars less. That's why they're great!

I just finished my basement studio/mancave and installed these monitors. These monitors are great. For the money there may not be a better pair of speakers. My friends that come over and listen to the music that comes out of them are amazed. Another great product from Yamaha.

But the hiss is deadly

By MikeZilla

from Atlanta

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

I love these things. Yeah, they have a flat response, yeah they can handle lots of volume. But the best part is that you can tailor them to the size of your room. I use these in a small project studio and they're awfully close to the wall. No problem though cuz I can trim the low frequencies by up to 4dB. All the other guys need to step their game up. Well, except for in the hiss game. These monitors have this really strange hiss ALL the time. I would like to say it's a ground problem because when I was working on a laptop the hiss only happened when the laptop was charging, as soon as I unplugged the charger the hiss was gone. Working on a Desktop is no good because you can't unplug it. Duh....

Phenomenal monitors

By Consumer Dan

from San Jose, California

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

I bought these Yamaha HS80M 8 inch powered monitors two months ago. I am taking a two-year music production program at a well-known music college so it is important to have high quality monitoring. I shopped and shopped online then went into a music store to listen to all the various monitors. Nothing in this price range or even much higher even comes close to the full flat and big sound that these monitors deliver. The only monitors I listened to that sounded better, cost $1100 each! I've never heard music sound so good in my house. I stretched a little to afford these, but they are one of the most satisfying purchases of my life! They really sound terrific.

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

I purchased a pair of these monitors after comaparing several in my local store. I highly recommend doing this yourself if you're in the market for new monitors. However, be sure to check these out. I felt they sounded the best (and the most true to the music) than most of the speakers. The only one that sounded better to my ears was over $1000 a speaker. I definitely recommend these speakers over the 5 inch as you're really able to hear the bass in your recordings. I've had them for 6 months now and still love them.

Extrodinary value

By T. W. S.

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

I listened to a dozen different pairs of powered studio monitors before deciding on a pair of these. Sound-wise, they rival Mackie 824MkII's (in fact I prefer these) and at roughly half the price. They seem clear and accurate and have dramatically improved my mixes. If you're on a budget, I highly recommend this speakers over any other economy speaker.

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

I went and tried out many studio monitors and these were the only ones that sounded clean and crisp. The others were just muddy and not tight. I don't have a professional studio, but I do record my own material and these have helped me with making the right mix and they seem to have a very good flat response. Quality is lasting as well. They sound great and color just a little bit, but that's probably because of the room, not the monitors.

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

Had these monitors for over two years now and I am pleased. They give more attention to detail and clairty than the other speakers I've test drived in the stores. I'm sure theres some coloration in there but it's probly the room setting. For the price and quality it's amazing! Even the smaller version of these sound great.

Number ONE Choice for MIXES

By Huey The Kid

from Las Vegas

See all my reviews

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

Are you fed-up with inaccurate mixes? Too much or too little bass, mids, or highs appearing in the final mixes? Look no more guys! Don't get caught up with high price items as I did. I bought the Mackie 824's 3 year ago (costing me aprox $****/pr)..much of the thumps/bass sections are burried, thereby, causing me to increase all the deep sections in all my mixes so I can here them nicely. But in the final mix, the bass-ends are completely over the roof. the M-Audios: Offers deep bass, extremely high definitions, but not enough mids, thereby, forcing me to increase my mids. Of course, the final mix, the mid sections, again, over powers everything else. I have too many bad speaker encounters to mentioned. Bottom line is, check out these Yamaha HS80M's. Don't know how they did it, but I couldn't believe the sounds. The best all around, well-balanced set of speakers I've heard. There are thumps and low end basses, rich mids, and perfectly balaced highs. And Most of all, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the price!! These speakers are definitely under priced. I Thought they're gonna be around $****/ea. I'm very very pleased. THanks YAMAHA. Job well done.

Looking good, True sound monitors

By Newworldman

from renton, WA

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

I have them for my home studio. They sound fantastic. I turned the volume to minimum but it can be loud. My mixes turned out much better than when I mixed with headphones. The reason I said that is because I tried the finished CDs everywhere (my home system, car, work,) and they sounded great in all of them. A little problem I had with it is that I can hear a little humble noise when I turn the volume on the back of the monitor up. Other than that, I am happy with them and try to keep them nice and clean all the time.

A MAZING

Comments about Yamaha HS80M 8" Powered Studio Monitor - Each:

These speakers are fantastic. I was out looking for studio monitors when the guy at guitar center showed me these. I was blown away. The accuracy is ridiculous, the bass outstanding and unmatched clarity. These monitors replaced what had been the most accurate pair at my guitar center, and they're $*** less!! I definitely recommend them unless you're looking for a smaller pair. The smaller model is just as accurate with only a little less on the low end; the best performance and value of any monitor in its size range.

I bought me a set of yamaha sh80m because my friend own a pair, and it sounds great for mixing. You can sit there for hours and your ears won't get tired compare to my other studio monitor. If you record any thing it will sounds exactly the way it sounds in real time that help me a lot to make decisions for the right amount EQ I set in every single track or master track. Do not expect extra bass or extra high on this monitor they are made to me more for mixing. If you are think to get one of this via online make sure tell the seller that you want it well package because they break easily, the wood are not pure wood.
