I was a total novice when I bought this, and went with the recommendation of the guy at Guitar Center. I don't doubt this is a good quality unit. However, I don't need 4 stereo inputs. I don't think I need any, but wouldn't mind one.The 9/10 and 11/12 channels seem to be -10db inputs, which isn't useful for instruments, from what I can tell. Keyboards, yes, effects units, yes, guitars and such, no.5/6 and 7/8 can be used for instruments, and since I have only one speaker right now, its not a big deal to only be using the left channel. I don't even know if I can use both channels, each one for a different instrument. I wouldn't be able to control them independently, that's for sure. So, when I bought a 12 input unit, I wanted space for 12 separate inputs. I didn't know what I needed at the time, but now I do. I've actually only got 6 inputs that I can use, and I needed more this weekend.Right now I'm looking at that Peavey 10 channel. Hopefully I can get a good deal on a trade.
