Zoom

Brilliant stereo recording in your pocket.

Don't let its size fool you. The H1 Handy Recorder has Zoom's renowned recording technology and studio-quality microphones in their easiest, most portable device ever.

Now Zoom recording technology is available to everyone. And with an infinite variety of applications, you'll want to take your H1 everywhere. From musical performances, songwriting sessions and rehearsals to seminars, conferences, journalism or capturing audio for video, the H1 gives you clean, clear stereo sound effortlessly.

What sets Zoom apart?
Like all Zoom recorders, the H1's onboard microphones are configured in an X/Y pattern, for stunning stereo imaging. Because both mics are arranged on the same axis, they are equidistant from the sound source for perfect localization and no phase shifting. The result is great stereo recordings with natural depth and accurate imaging.

Under your thumb
With its newly designed user interface, the H1 is also Zoom's easiest recorder to use. All its functions are at your fingertips, such as track marker, auto record, low cut filter, level and volume controls with on-board buttons  No menus required.

Intuitive controls make it easy to capture the audio you need with ease. But Zoom still provides the versatility you've come to expect. So you get total recording format flexibility from 16-bit/44.1 kHz to 24-bit/96 kHz WAV, or MP3 from 48 kbps to 320 kbps and enough tools onboard to make impeccable recordings.

Everything you need to get started recording is included. Your H1 comes with an AA battery for 10 hours of operation and a 2 GB microSD card.

In addition, an H1 accessory package (APH-1) is also available (see sku # H70260) with an array of accessories that make your recordings even more pristine and easier to capture. The accessory kit includes a windscreen, AC adapter (USB type), USB cable, adjustable tripod stand, padded-shell case and a mic clip adapter.

Combining powerful recording capability with elegance and simplicity, the H1 Handy Recorder is our smallest, most affordable recorder ever.

I would not buy it again. In fact, this is the 2nd and last product I'll ever buy from this company.

I've owned one of these for a while, and used it for dozens of interviews. The sound quality is good, and I like the XY pattern but there are few pretty big flaws that prevent me from giving it a better rating.

1. TONS of noise from just holding it. They didn't do any work at all to insulate the case, so you need to hold it very carefully, or put it on the desk. And then why not just use a USB mic?

2. Must be used with optional wind screen. Otherwise it picks up plosives and every passing light breeze.

3. No setting to record in mono, so you need to do that in post. Which is no biggie, but still.

Cheap plastic. I was hoping that the optional kit with a screw-on mic stand attachment would help the noise problem from holding it, but it's also cheap plastic, and transmits sound to the mic very efficiently. Bad.

It is only $99, which is cheap.

I bought the ZOOM H1 for field recording for my business. Bottom-line, the sound was horrible. Lots of clicks and pops throughout the audio tracks. I wonder how this has gotten good reviews. I find the product to fall well short of my expectations. Unfortunately, I didn't try it until it was past 30 days so I can't return it now.

I bought this to mainly record licks and lyrics just for my own reference. I was totally blown away by the quality of the sound. I recorded my cedar top acoustic with this and it sounded totally amazing. well worth the money and then some.
