Preamp AST Pickup UST Pickup

The B-Band A2.2 XOM Active Dual Acoustic Guitar Pickup System gives you a dual input preamp, electret film under-saddle pickup, and electret film acoustic soundboard pickup in one convenient package.

The B-Band A2.2 XOM preamp has a small remote control pad with a volume and mix control that mounts without modification at the inside edge of a guitar's soundhole. XOM technology uses the UST and AST to sense the guitar sound from 2 different locations, making a sound that is much more complete, true, and pure. The preamp is housed in a lightweight all-metal box that can be mounted inside the guitar at the side or back. It is powered with a 9-volt battery (not included). The reproduced sound is amazingly clear and pure. The B-Band A2.2 acoustic guitar pickup kit provides all the mounting hardware, 9-volt battery clip, and wire harness.

The B-Band UST (under-saddle transducer) still stands as the first transducer that sounds better alone than many pickup/microphone combinations. Designated the "4th Gen UST," this latest UST has been stiffened for better string balance qualities, higher output, greater durability, and lower background noise. Since it is only 0.4mm thick, it usually does not require a new string saddle or adjustment to the saddle cavity. The UST is a flexible, rugged, and constant structure all the way to the preamp. Connection to the preamp is an easy "plug in" without soldering.

The B-Band AST (acoustic soundboard transducer) provides unprecedented natural acoustic sound, even at high volume levels. Bigger 14mm pickup surface acts to capture detailed acoustics of the instrument without sounding boxy. All the advantages of a microphone, without feedback and positioning hassles. Attaches to the guitar's bridge plate with a special 2-sided tape. String balance is always even. An ultrathin, flexible and rugged constant structure all the way to the preamp. Connection to the preamp is an easy "plug in" without soldering.

Sounds like a Taylor

I sold my expensive Taylor and bought a Taylor 214 to take in the mission field with me. I put this system in it for amplified sound. It sounds as good as the Taylor Expression System in my previous Taylor. My only complaint is the lenght of the pickup leads and volume/tone pot leads are short. It limits where you can put it inside the guitar. I did not want to mount the box on top of the Taylor label, so I mounted just behind the brace on the back of the guitar. I barely had enough lead to mount the volume/tone pots in the sound hole. Sound board bracing limits where the volume/tone pot can be mounted as well. Use a 1/2 inch Uni-bit to drill the jack hole as it doesn't splinter the wood. You won't be disappointed with the sound!

After reading the other reviews, my expectations were very high. This product has wildly exceeded my expectations. I installed it in my D.W. Stevens which has had a Martin Thin-Line for about 20 years. The installation was pretty easy; however, be prepared to use your noggin to fill in missing small details. The sound is exceptional with this rig! The sound hole controls are very convenient (thank God I didn't need to put a bunch of holes in my mahogany sides! The only problems: 1) I can REALLY hear my need for a fret job now; 2) my stomach growls will probably be broadcast over the PA!

Beats LR Baggs

I install this pick-up on my favorite acoustic. I couldn't ask for a better duplication of the original tone of the guitar when amplified. Beats the crap out of the Baggs dual system that I have installed on my Martin 000-28.

B-Band A2.2

I installed the A2.2 in one of my handmade acoustics and was amazed at how great this system sounds. Very natural and lots of subtle control over the tone.

Intallation is fairly straight forward but was nervous because of the warnings about the fragility of the pickup. The first unit I installed had a bad control wheel and it was a little frustrating because there was a very noticable hum (which is also a symptom of the kinking the ribbon transducer). It worked but didn't sound very good. I called the company and left a message and the call was returned shortly, the problem diagnosed and a new part in the mail. When I put the new wheel in, the sound of this system really impressed me. Good quality preamp!

I'm not sure this would be a great system if you needed to play at high volume but sounds very good at small club levels, even through my old twin reverb.

I had this pickup put into my Taylor 355 on Friday and I can't stop playing. This was the best solution for me because I wanted plug'n play but did not want my Taylor chopped up. Wide range of sound and awesome output.
