The Boss BF-3 has 4 modes: Standard, Ultra, Gate/Pan, and Momentary. Standard mode is, of course, your standard flanging sound. It can get relatively lush and is pretty much able to cover most flanging sounds you'd need. However, Ultra mode is where this pedal really shines. This mode goes much deeper than standard, and you can get some pretty interesting sounds by turning up the depth and resonance. Gate/Pan mode is also nice- you can get unique gated flanging sounds and tremolo in mono, along with leslie-esque sounds in stereo. Momentary is essentially the standard flanging but it only lasts as long as you have your foot on the pedal. This pedal sounds best in stereo. My only gripe about this pedal is that it sucks down batteries like nobody's business, so get a power supply. This was my first pedal and has left a good first impression of BOSS pedals. I plan on ordering more in the future. I highly recommend this pedal, whether you're a hobbyist or a touring musician.

This is one of the BEST Boss pedals ever made. I first purchased the Digitech Turbo Flange looking to same some cash, but that pedal did nothing for me and back it went. The day I received this new BF-3, I played it for hours. Great flange sound and a great chorus setting from the manual. If you are looking for a great sounding flange, look for further and buy this.

The Boss BF-3 Flanger is an incredibal pedal. I love the standered and gate/pan setings but I think the ultra is a tad over the top also the sound is much better out of output B (sterio) than out put A (mono) it is much fuller and the gate/pan sounds sooooooo much better I recomend putting this pedal after any distortions or overdrives. My only complaint is the price it is preety expencive, over all its excellent!

I was just about to chuck this thing out the window because I didn't like how metallic it's sweep was, so I decided to hook it up to a friend's amp, and we had about 3 feet of seperation. HOLY CRAP THAT SOUNDED AWESOME! I decided to keep it because it seems to wiggle between the speakers. I kinda has that ADA "pedalflanger" thing going for it, without waving to move an expression pedal. SO much better in stereo. Can't hate a *true* stereo rig without one!

A few complaints about the BF3 flanger, the sweep always starts from the low then goes high. Can't play unchanied with it. When the pedal is turned on there is a momentary delay. Not noticeable playin live but when you are recording with it you can hear it. The sweep goes way to high and the pedal sounds somewhat generic. I suggest gettinga BF2. Not as many features but the sound is %100 better.
