I have owned this bass for over 3 years, it is a beautiful instrument.I gig through an SWR working man head and cabinet, practice through a SWR combo, play open mikes direct through PA speakers, and record with it regularly and it sounds great no matter what it's plugged into. Great for solos, it sings with excellent chorus effect especially on the high end. You wont go back to a four string, that is until your back starts killing you. The drawback is the weight, it's so heavy! Intonation is slightly off but close enough especially for the price.

My opinion for this bass is it would be a great soloing bass. Great for midrange to high-end solos but I think it loses some of the great sound on the E. Despite that great bass spend ages playing it in the store, have never seen anything of the like before.

I had been looking for a way to add a little spice to my bass sound, and since I had already changed amps and added a fretless to my collection a few years ago, I decidied that an eight-string might do the trick. Am I glad I went this direction. Not only does this Dean Rhapsody play great, but it also has a fantastic sound... and, in my opinion, it's a good-looking bass. I tried other eight-strings, including the other Dean found on this site, but the Rhapsody had a quality at the price that I couldn't beat. Are there better basses out there? Yes. But for the money, I don't know of a better value.

As pointed out by another reviewer, "Day Tripper" does sound great just using this bass, but I prefer Golden Earring's "Radar Love" to play with the Rhapsody.

I love this bass. Beautiful Look and tone. This bass and my Ibanez 6 string are my main basses for live shows. My band plays hardcore metal and I have this bass in a dropped D tunning and it just growls. You would also think that with that many strings it would be impossible to pop with it but I have no problem. Plus I love the reaction I get from people when I pull it out of the case. Most people don't know what it is, they think it's some kind of mutated guitar. * note: I have to special order strings for it since none of my local stores carry strings for 8 string basses.

Its simply the best bass for the money. It even plays great with just four strings attached. The electronics are excellent, the neck has a tendency to warp, but that is expected with all that tention. The double truss ods take care of that. The guitar is beautiful, and plays like it looks. It is just amazing for its price.
