I purchased a new American Standard Lefty after a lengthy search for a lefty. I have played casually for about 20 years and have owned many brands of guitars, but never a Fender. I must say now I realize what all the hubub is about! Its a sunburst with a maple neck and the clean sound is just amazing with the neck or center pickup on. I plan on putting in a hot bridge pickup cause im used to having more fullness when rockin out with the gain cranked, The only problem I had when I first took it out to play ,the truss rod was rattlin in the neck, I found out it had no tension on it in either direction so I gave it a quarter turn counterclockwise and now its perfect.I think the problem was due to temperature variation from Cali to Conn.

This is very simple. If you're taking the step up from more modestly priced guitars, THIS is where to start. My advice is don't sink two grand or more into a Gibson and then be afraid to take it out of its case. These American Strats are pro-grade PLAYERS guitars for under a grand and that includes a hardshell case. So go ahead, get one and PLAY it . Believe me, they can take a beating and it'll be around alot longer than you will. Just remember that if it isn't to your liking right out of the box, it needs to be professionally set-up as MOST guitars (even $5,000.00 Gibsons) do.

Now I understand why the American Strat costs so much more than the Highway 1. I used to own a Highway 1 and loved it, but I got a killer deal on a 50th Anniversary American Strat and got rid of the Highway 1. The extra attention in workmanship really makes a huge difference. It played like a dream straight out of the case and was set up very well. Beautiful finish (tobacco sunburst). The tremelo stays in tune fairly well for a non-locking one, whereas the vintage-style tremelo goes out of tune it you breath on it. Combined w/my American Tele, my Hot Rod Deville 4X10, and an MXR Distortion pedal, this guitar completes me!

Well I Have Owned This Guitar For aBout A Year Now I Got It For Christmas 2004. It has been an amazing buy. I have the Olympic white with maple fret board and it is very smooth. The only problem I have is that the band I play in plays more punk and hard rock so the pickups were jus not doing anything thing for that aspect of my playing. I love that vintage strat tone but you gotta have some thickness so what I did was I purchased a Seymour Duncan Everything Axe Set and it is perfect. I Own a Les Paul that has a Seymour Duncan JB In the bridge in it and the two sounds are identical and the only way you can tell them apart is by looking at the guitar besed on color but to hear them next to each other is identical! But if you dont play harder and without much distortion this is the perfect guitar for you.

Pleasantly surprised

Ordered "sight unseen" ; was concerned about what I'd be getting, since I'd tried three locally, and two had unacceptable (but fixable) problems.

Let's just say that I was pleasantly surprised (and relieved); the quality of woods, finish work and construction was near excellent; the only issue I have is that I can't screw the trem arm in - looking for a solution for that.

Otherwise, great tone, great feel, great quality; it's a keeper!
