Gretsch Drums Catalina Club 4-Piece Shell Pack
I bought this set when it first cam on the market and almost five years later, it is still exceeding my expectations. I have used this kit extensively in many different applications; recording, playing live, and practicing by myself and with a band.
I know some of you were concerned with the long lugs bending so I am happy to report that all of my lugs are still perfectly straight with no bends what-so-ever.
The only issue I've ever had was the tom holder slipping which can be annoying.
All and all, I have no regrets and only praises for this little wonder!
Incidentally, this kit sounds perfect with Remo Fiber Skin drum heads and looks great with Ludwig vintage style flat base stands.

I have had this kit for about a month now and just played live with it last night. I am extremely impressed with its punchy and warm sound. Our sound tech tells me that its attack and tight punch through the PA mix seems greater than my other kits (Yamaha Custom Advantage and Tama Superstar). The snare has a nice crack when tuned up high, the mounted tom has good resonance and warmth due to the mahogany shell and suspension mount, the floor tom is unreal as it sounds much bigger than its 14" size (dare I say it has tympani properties), and the bass drum has solid punch and clarity. You will want to buy a Gibraltar lift as this allows the pedal beater adjustment to be similar to your setting when playing a 20 or 22" bass drum. If you don't have the lift, you'll need to cut your beaters shorter, and this will change the feel slightly. Moreover, the lift probably adds a little resonance and projection so its worth the approximate $** investment. The standard G1s sound great on the toms, I added Genera Resonants to the bottoms and this made their sound bigger and deeper. Try a Remo Powerstroke 3 (smooth white) on the bass drum and an Aquarian Coated Focus-X on the snare for sound enhancement, you won't be disappointed. I have the silver sparkle and they are beautiful! Excellent craftsmanship. This is my first mahogany shell kit and I'm attracted to their warmth and low end frequencies. I play classic rock in a six-piece band and this kit was big sounding and fit well so it's versatile and not just for jazz. It has a pleasing vintage look with the long tension rods and they tune up fine. I am completely satisfied with this kit in terms of sound, tuning, and aesthetics, and all at a reasonable price!

I bought this kit about a month ago and I was extremely pleased with it. The toms sound excellent, the snare has a cutting, ringy sound (which I like) and the bass drum is suprisingly loud for it's size. I bought the silver sparkle one and it's beautiful! Replace with Aquarian heads and you'll be ready to go! An excellent kit for the price! Worth much more than the price...

I got this set about 4 months ago and WOW! This set is a smaller configuration so it is perfect for transporting and lugging around. I got this because of its size. In the description it says it is good for jazz. Well that is true, but tune the toms low and you have a huge sounding rock set. The 18" bass is surprisingly thick. I have noticed that some people say that they get a bass drum platform to give it a better sound. It helps, but in my opinion it sounds great without it. The finish on mine is the Silver Onyx. I get compliments all the time about how beautiful it looks.

I bought my first big drumset almost 30 years ago and playing classic/acoustic rock I needed a set that was small, durable and sounds great. The Club set works great. You can still rock but you can also appreciate the sounds off the toms and bass drum. I changed the heads to Remo pinstripes. The snare sounds good, but I wish it was a inch or two deeper, just my personal perference. This set is a great bargain. Sells on ebay for alot more!
