Good, but not great

I like amplitube, some of the amp models have excellent sounds. However, if your on a budget and only have money to buy one amp software program, I would recommend guitar rig instead. The biggest problem ive run into from it that when used as a vst effect on multiple tracks, it can get locked up and not work properly. Also, it does not work as a stand alone application, which would be very helpful in trying out new amp sounds. In saying that, the amp models are very good, but the product could be more user friendly

I have been using this product for about 6 weeks now and I have to say that it sounds really good. I personally think that some of the patches are better sounding than my POD 2.0 and it does not have any of that POD plastic sound. The claim about having 1200 different amps is a little misleading. A lot of the Cab-amp-EQ combinations sound like poo poo… but finding combos that sound good is not a difficult task, and the effects and post amp EQ add a lot of flexibility. The reason I gave this a 7 out of 10 on value is that the price point is a little bit steep, but then again, it is still a lot cheaper than NI’s amp sim. I am using an AMD 2700+ with 512 megs of RAM, and a Firepod XL for my sound input. I am Using Sonar 4.0 and I have my Firepod set to 6ms latency. I am able to play and record live. I have done songs with up to 8 tracks of guitar and bass at once and my CPU hasn’t gone over 60 percent usage. If you got really crazy and did so many tracks that you overloaded your CPU, Sonar allows you to freeze the tracks to save on CPU usage, but then you would have to unfreeze them to make any changes. Last but not least, amplitube is decent at bass guitar too. The POD never was good at it. To me, the biggest plus is being able to go in after the recording and completely (100%) change the sound patch since amplitube is really just recording a dry signal. VERY FLEXIBLE!

I really like the way Amplitube works. It is easy to use, and very reliable when 'knobbed' properly.
I can recreate any distortion, from Pop/Rock(Ashlee Simpson, Avril Lavigne) to Hard rock/Metal(Staind, Three Days Grace, Cold). Overall great. Definitely a good unit, especially when you don't want to bother your parents when you're recording.
