The CS-9 Stereo Chorus Pro Pedal offers dramatic improvements over the original CS-9 from Maxon. In addition to Rate and Depth controls, the CS-9 Pro effects pedal features Delay Time and Dry Blend controls for limitless tonal options. Improved construction including through-hole, glass reinforced epoxy PCB's, snap-in PCB connectors, and true bypass switching guarantee trouble-free performance while the combination of one Panasonic MN3207 BBD IC and one Signetics NE570 compander provides warm yet crystal-clear chorus with zero clock noise.
The CS-9 Pro stereo chorus pedal offers an entire range of classic and unique new chorusing effects. With circuitry based around the Panasonic MN3207 (low voltage BBD IC, now out of production), the CS-9 Pro's Rate and Depth control can conjure every chorus texture from subtle to severe. The custom-tuned oscillator circuit can provide enough speed to authentically imitate rotary speaker cabinets and just the right amount of modulation for a lush vibrato that won't leave you feeling seasick.
The real secret behind the CS-9 Pro stompbox's amazing tone lies in the Delay Time control. The Delay Time control exhibits an inverse relation between the delay time and the frequency shift of the chorus - as the delay time increases, the frequency that is shifted decreases. This inverse relation creates "double level" and "cancellation" peaks and notches at particular frequency points to create an amazingly realistic, three-dimensional chorus effect. In addition, the Delay Time control is interactive with the Rate and Depth controls, so that if you increase the Depth, the Delay Time range increases, and if you increase the Speed, the Delay Time changes faster.
For even more versatility, the pedal features a front-mounted Dry Blend control that determines the level of effected signal vs. dry signal, making the CS-9 Pro perfect for use with Bass Guitar as well. True stereo outputs allow for mono, stereo, or inverted mono (90 degrees out of phase) signal routing. The CS-9 Pro's performance is kept exceptionally quiet thanks to a Signetics #NE570 compander and true bypass switching using a 4PDT mechanical switch.
Since their introduction in the early 1980s, Maxon Nine Series designs have achieved a legendary status with pedal connoisseurs around the globe. The reasons for this are simple - superior sound quality and innovative features that offer a seamless interface between performer and performance. Over 20 years later this rule still holds true. Now available with improved circuitry including JRC4558 IC chips and True Bypass Switching, Maxon Nine Series effects remain the standard by which all others are judged.

I love my chorus pedals. I've owned or played many good ones, including vintage boss CE-2, EHX, Analog Man, Cosmichorus, etc. etc. etc. Of all of these, this is the best I have played, and I'll tell you why. First, unlike many analog choruses which have just 2 knobs, this one has four. Being able to control more than depth and rate is critical. Altering the delay changes the nature of the chorus effect, and having independent width and blend functions lets you warm or chill the chorus and determine how sharp it is. Literally, any chorus sound is at your fingertips. You can go from 50s space laser ray chorus to the subtle, syrupy warm chorus of the Police. It's so versatile as a mod that I've practically stopped using my flanger pedal and put my phaser pedal up for sale. Second, the quality of this chorus, all analog and true bypass, is top-notch. The pedal has a nice vintage look to it, and appears to be invincible -- it weighs a ton. It definitely lends itself to a Boss CE-2 type syrupy chorus, but, as I say, the 4 knobs let you make it do almost anything. It's a little pricy, but I've played more expensive units that don't have this kind of quality or versatility. The point is, if chorus is an important effect for you, find the money and buy this. I'm serious.

The chorus sounds from this pedal are some of the best I've ever heard from my rig. I've owned an Analogman chorus and BOSS CE-5 from before it went digital. Here's the problem. The input sensitivity is prone to clipping if you play through any pickups hotter a passive single coil. If you play through a humbucker you get some ugly clipping. It's really unfortunate. Pickups are becoming hotter all the time and chorus is so popular, I feel that such a well known company should keep up.

This Pedal Makes Me Sad

This pedal cannot handle higher-output pickups. I was using my Schecter C-1 with Duncan Distortion pickups, and when using the neck pickup on the clean setting on my amp, when I play through this pedal I hear a clipping sound. The pedal sounds really good otherwise, but the fact that it can't be used with high-output pickups makes it useless to me. Any other cheap chorus pedal would be better. I bought a Marshall Regenerator, and its chorus setting is almost as good, and doesn't have the clipping.
