Bang for the buck. No roadie? no problem!

I bought this kit when it first hit the street with the intention of triggering it out (which by the way works great and saves you half the money of buying other pad controllers and hardware). After seeing that other owners use the kit as their primary gig kit and just change the heads I was rather skeptical of the tones that it can produce. I refitted it with genera G2's all around and a Remo ambassador for the bass and a coated ambassador for the snare and this kit sounds awesome!! Throw in the fact that it is easily the easiest kit to transport that i've ever owned (and I've owned a dozen over the years) and this is definitely a keeper! Forget the "band van", all you need is a miata or mini-cooper...

I purchased this kit to have a quiet practice set and discovered that with good heads and proper cymbals it sounds as good as any kit I've ever owned. I replaced the stock clear heads with some nice Evans coated heads and set the little 13" snare aside as a spare and replaced it with my 1971 Ludwig Vistalite snare. I then added my Paiste cymbals instead of the provided practice cymbals and now have a great kit for practice or for jazz. The small sizes are excellent for jazz combo work. I even put on triggers for use with the mesh heads so practice is only quiet for the neighbors and not me. I absolutely LOVE this kit. It'll never take the place of my old Ludwig kit, but I am not the least bit bashful about taking this kit to a gig where space is at a premium.

this set is awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get this set the only thing you will regret is the heads and cymbals. Replace them with les vibrating heads like remos or Evans. Other than that this set is the shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm a 17 year old who still has another year of living at home. My grandma just moved in with us, and of course doesn't like loud noises. I sold my Tama set and got this Kit and words can't describe how happy i am. Now I can practice without hearing the bellowing toms, but just the faint tone. They are so quiet you can play the radio and these at the same time for practice. If you need to play, but no one wants to hear, then BUY THESE!!!!

I bought this set to use as my practice kit with my band. My main kit, an 8pc. Mapex is set up in my studio with electronic conversion heads on them. Instead of spending hours breaking the Mapex kit down every week I decided to try this little Pearl kit and what a wonderful choice it was. This kit is simple to pack and sets up in minutes. I put Evans Genera G2 heads on the toms, an Evans EMAD head on the bass, bought a used Pearl Export 16"X16" floor tom and basically have a 6 piece kit that actually sounds nice. I use a Hart Dynamics Pro snare and their ECymbals on my studio kit so I use my Mapex Black Panther snare and Sabian cymbals with this kit (the HH and crash cymbal that came with the kit are worthless). I have to mike the bass drum(only 8" deep) but overall I am quite pleased with this kit. I doubt I'll use it live at a gig because I have the nice Mapex kit, but if space were at a premium this kit could get the job done with good miking.
