With the Tama Superstar SL Custom 5-Piece Standard Drum Set, new luster is added to the original Tama Superstar drums of the '80s. Birch shells sport basswood inner and outer plies for great power and projection. The new Superstar SL 5-Piece Standard Drum Set has a fantastic transparent lacquer finish. The drum kit includes 7mm/7-ply bass drum, 6mm/6-ply toms and snare. Precision-cut double-beveled bearing edges for consistent shell-to-head contact and explosive attack with bright timbre. Tama Drums have zinc die-cast hoops for dynamics, clarity, powerful rim shots, and easy tuning. Also has Star-Cast mounting system for free, natural resonance. The drums in the SL 5 piece kit have newly designed Soundbridge high-tension lugs with minimal shell contact and rubber insulators for maximum shell vibration. High-end claw hooks with rubber spacers - same as used on the high-end Tama Starclassic drums - protect wood bass drum hoop. Innovative spurs have lock nuts to prevent rubber feet from loosening. I just got my new TAMA SUPERSTAR and I love it. It is amazing. The tone is awesome and the expansion possibilities are endless. This drum set is great for the price, it is up there with some of the other name brand for less $. If you didn't have a TAMA set before make sure you get the kit and not the shell pack because tama makes the best hardware. With the die-cast hoops it makes tuning easy.

After many years as a die-hard Yamaha fanatic I purchased a new set of Tama Superstar Customs (Black).I put Remo, Ebony Pinstripes on all Toms. 10-12-13-14-16. Evans Emad on the bass batter and Evans Ebony on the front. A class custom cymbals all the way around. Cowbell, woodblock and Bongos and Ive never been more pleased. Great Hardware, good options for expansion, this can be a very serious contender to match the sound of kits costing a lot more. So feel good and rock on.

I finally purchased a Tama Superstar from a music dealer and was just blown away with the quality and persormance. I still need to get new drum heads for the kit but the stock heads get a pretty good sound. The Tama Superstar is sure to impress all!

I have owned a Tama Rockstar since the late 90's and loved every minute of having it. Last summmer, I was on a quest to find a practice set to cut down on the set-up/breaking down of my drums all the time. Well, that "practice set" ended up being this Tama Superstar Custom. I can't be more pleased with these drums. They put most sets I have heard to shame. The bass drum is very deep. I still have the stock head on it and it booms. I usually use a Remo pinstripe or Evans EMAD head, but why fix it if it ain't broke? It's odd that all the stock heads sounded great right out of the box. Best feature: the toms are incredible - especially the high rack tom. You can get so many sounds out of it and it's loud and punchy - plenty of tone. I am looking for a 16" floor tom for a deeper sound, but the 14" fusion floor sounds just fine. It actually sounds better and deeper than the 16" on my rockstar. I have played about 20 shows with this set and it sounds and looks professional. I wonder now, why I didn't buy this thing 2 years ago. I have to admire it every time I walk by it. I got Titanium Fade and I treat it like my cars. Keeping it shiny and clean is so rewarding, that it's sick. Needless to say, my rockstar has become the practice set. Get one of these and throw some pinstripe heads on it and you'll never need another set of drums again. I am thinking of getting another one, before they discontinue it or something awful like that...

This set is highly billed, but words and reviews do not do it justice. The sound is spectacular, especially the bass drum. The overall responsiveness, look, and FEEL of these drums, make the included average TAMA harware irrelevent. I play these live and they cut through all kinds of music. TAMA is the best!
