I was given this so called "drum set" as a gift. When I plugged it in, it was not that good. The bass button doesnt work very well and it not durable. the drum can only make about two sounds at once. the only good thing about it is that it has many drum sets in one, but most of them sound alot alike. do not buy this drum set, its a toy for little children (or should be labled as one).

I had this kit....

I've owned this little guy for a good 3 years when starting out and even got my cousin into getting one.

I thought it was a great kit until I played a Roland v-drum setup and so I ended up making a custom setup using the Roland module which was so easy and it works/sounds 100x better than this Yamaha tabletop unit.

This little unit sounds only OK and you cant do solid rolls on the pads. It did hold up well for me but if you look at my cousins you'll see 2 dead pads and one pad falling off. He also hits the plastic a lot so its all dented up. It didn't hold up for him but it worked fine for me.

The pedals are not great, too flat but you can try rigging them up to a standard bass kick pedal like I did a long time ago and which led to a similar setup with my new custom Roland set.

I would not get another one of these nor would I get their newer unit with more pads because theres simply not enough pads and the hard rubber really makes your hands tired.

Even at 50% off I would say its not worth it. I say go for the mini Roland HD kit that just came out.

Sounds Good

We had one of these set up in a little coffee house sized stage where a full drum kit would never fit. A good drummer can make this unit sound good. Of course, it can't compare to a real set but at this price and portability, one shouldn't compare it with a real set. The drummers have commented that it doesn't always respond to their hits and it doesn't have the feel of real drums. But from my point of view as a guitarist, it sounds really good and when space prohibits a full set, this unit works great. It might not be a drummer's dream machine, but it sure sounds good to me.

Play it live

I've seen this digital DRUM played live. I wouldn't use it live but was used with island music, raggae, and latin. For musicians with very little space to perform it seemed perfect. Don't get me wrong, the sound quality wasn't that of a higher end kit and didn't even compare to accoustic drums, BUT, for the price and compact use, it's great. I bought one for the kids to get the basics of playin and will move to an higher end accoustic kit if they don't lose interest. If they do, not a lot of money was spent.
