Comments about Engelhardt C1 Concert Double Bass & Outfit:
I purchased this to be my first upright bass. I?ve been playing the electric bass for over 20 years, and finally made the move to the upright. I bought the Engelhardt EC-1 because it is a ?beginner? bass with all the right features. After receiving this bass and comparing it to other more expensive basses (like my friend?s Upton and a different friend?s King) I am convinced this Engelhardt is more than a beginner?s bass. It came from the factory with a great set-up (although I do recommend getting a custom set-up) and it plays great. The sound was impressive from the beginning, but I swear the sound gets better everyday (of course that could be because I?m getting better at it). The sound on this thing with the bow is fantastic. All of the guys in my band have commented on how beautiful this bass sounds and are also impressed with it. It has a comfortable set-up and even the stock strings sound great with a bow or with your fingers. I play rockabilly slap, arco and pizzicato with it and it sounds great with all styles. This bass has a Jatoba fingerboard and tailpiece instead of ebony. Personally, I like the look and sound of the Jatoba, but if you have your heart set on Ebony, you might want to go with one of the more expensive Engelhardt basses. I highly recommend this bass. I bought it to be my first upright, but now I?m pretty sure it will be my last. There is no reason why this bass won?t fulfill my bass needs. Also, it?s made in the USA. I haven?t found anything shipped from China or Eastern Europe that can compete with this beautiful bass.
