The PRS Custom 24 is the guitar that established the PRS legend, the model with which Paul Reed Smith launched his guitar-making business in 1985, and which today continues to be a favorite among players and pros around the world. Paul Reed Smith began building guitars while still in college, road-testing them himself at gigs, and using that experience and feedback from other musicians to continually improve his craft. Eventually, he started hanging out at his local concert venues, befriending the roadies, and gaining backstage access to show his guitars to the stars of the day. Early prominent PRS players include jazz master Al DiMeola, Howard Leese of Heart, and, most famously, Carlos Santana. As Carlos puts it, ...having the right guitar in your hands gives you clarity of certainty and confidence, and makes playing fun - and for Carlos, the right guitar is a PRS. While he now plays a variety of PRS Santana signature axes, he first became smitten with a borrowed PRS guitar while recording his 1981 release Zebop! and ordered one of his own, which, over time, has evolved into the current PRS Custom 24 line.

The PRS Custom 24 appeals to both diehard Fender and Gibson players, as it combines the Les Paul-like tone and sustain of a mahogany body and an elegantly figured maple top with a double-cutaway Strat-style body shape, and sports a 25 string length that comes in midway between the standard Fender 25-1/2 and Gibson's 24-3/4. The 24-fret neck provides two full octaves of fretboard to explore, and the PRS-designed humbuckers deliver plenty of pure, creamy sustain or down and dirty crunch. There are different options available depending on model, including a PRS-designed whammy system, various coil-splitting switching options, and a staggering array of stunning finishes to match any aesthetic. The model range includes the moderately-priced SE, or Student Edition line, the standard Custom 24 line, and the top-of-the-line Private Stock guitars, with high-end appointments like a Private Reserve eagle inlay of mammoth ivory on the headstock, curly maple body binding, and gold hardware. The SE line is crafted in Korea to exacting PRS specifications, and delivers excellent quality and playability at student-friendly prices. The standard Custom 24 is now available with the PRS Artist Package, which offers an expanded range of Private Stock appointments like top-grade flame or quilt maple tops and premium Mexican ebony fingerboards, to deliver a truly stunning guitar at a player-friendly price. On the surface, they all share the same painstaking attention to detail, uncompromising quality and elegant appearance that PRS guitars are known for, characterized by the distinctive flying bird fingerboard inlays and headstock shape. Dig in with your favorite chops and you'll hear the rich tone and singing sustain that powers artists like Alex Lifeson from Rush, Dave Navarro, and Neil Schon, among thousands of others. Whatever PRS Custom 24 you choose, you will be rewarded with a guitar that looks magnificent, plays like a dream, and will help you fulfill yours. Order yours today.
