Introducing the all new PL Series microphones

Celebrating 80 years in the professional audio industry we helped create!

By Rick Belt

Our design team worked relentlessly to ensure that every mic in the  PL series is a standout in both class and price-point. To achieve this,  the same high-end technology is shared across the entire series:

  • Powerful neodymium magnet structures in the dynamic models—when  properly integrated in a well-designed capsule, neodymium delivers  superior output, transient response, and frequency response  characteristics.
  • Memraflex grilles—tight weave, hardened metal grilles that maintain  their form and protect the capsules under the most demanding road  conditions
  • Proprietary suspension—superior shock mounting and body  construction to insulate and isolate the capsule from handling noise and  impacts
  • Superior pattern characteristics—maintaining uniformity and  minimizing off-axis coloration is one of the big challenges in  microphone design and has everything to do with isolation of the  intended sound sources on stage and optimizing system gain and clarity
  • Multistage POP filters—to ensure clean, articulated close-mic’d vocals without annoying pops
  • Solid roadworthy construction—PL series mics are backed up by a three-year warranty

The Vocal Mic Group

PL24/PL24S - Supercardioid Neodymium Dynamic

Priced in the mid-entry level range, the PL24 is designed to deliver frequency content balanced for all-around vocal  clarity and articulation in any live sound application. It’s perfect for  weekend warriors, schools, and houses of worship where budget is a  concern. Its supercardioid polar pattern provides the isolation and  feedback-rejection characteristics found in competitive models costing  25-50% more. The PL24S has an on/off switch.

PL44 - Supercardioid Neodymium Dynamic

The PL44 provides incredible power and clarity. Its voicing is contoured with an  upper mid-lift and transparency that bring soft-edged or darker voices  front and center without adding EQ. Delivering plug-and-play placement  for these voice types, the PL44 excels where all loudspeakers are most challenged—between midrange and high-frequency.

PL80a/PL80c - Supercardioid Neodymium Dynamic

Inspired by the very popular original EV PL80, the PL80a has a forgiving and EQ-friendly contour that adapts nicely to  “everyman” vocal characteristics. It delivers clarity and articulation  without a hard push in any part of the response that would make a voice  sound hard or nasal. It matches nicely with a voice that tends to have  an edge, and the EQ-friendly contour makes it ideal for the FOH engineer  who is working to get the most out of several different voice types.  Finished in gunmetal grey, it’s also available in EV’s classic snow gray  finish (PL80c).

PL84 - Cardioid Condenser

This is the “vocalist’s” vocal microphone of the series. There are  singers that sing a few songs and add harmonies when necessary, but are  far more likely to brag about their guitar work than their voices. Then  there are vocalists. These people aren’t afraid to tell you  what they do and may even sing for you on request. They’ve worked long  and hard on their tones to develop the character that makes their voice  unique. They love the mic and work it with style, playing off it like a  guitarist plays off his instrument. We designed the PL84 for the vocalist. With a meticulously designed cardioid condenser capsule that  is carefully voiced for intimate detail and presence, it lifts even the  softest whispers and truly captures the raw passion when your voice  kicks into overdrive.

The Drum Mic Group

PL33 - Supercardioid Neodymium Dynamic

Designed for kick drum, floor toms, and low-frequency instruments, the dynamic PL33 delivers all of the tight punch and transient snap necessary for  today’s demanding sound requirements—and does it without being overly  sensitive to placement. The PL33 is destined to become a staple in every professional soundperson’s arsenal of mics.

PL35 - Supercardioid Neodymium Dynamic

Putting a completely new angle on miking toms and snares, the PL35 is designed for super-fast transient response and sonically voiced to deliver open and natural tom and snare sounds. The PL35 employs a unique physical design that eliminates the need for  right-angle XLR connectors, minimizing cable clutter over the drum. In  addition to all of its other outstanding features, the PL35 also includes a clever snap-on drum rim clamp that mounts the mic directly to just about any drum.

PL37 - Cardioid Condenser

The PL37 small-diaphragm condenser is an excellent overhead cymbal and  instrument microphone. It exhibits an exceptionally uniform cardioid  polar pattern that minimizes off-axis bleed. It has magnificent  transient response, handles exceptionally high SPLs, and captures the  sheen of cymbals, hi-hats, and other acoustic instruments in live or  studio applications.
