Depending upon the sample rate and bit format of your files, you can use a simple format to figure out how much hard drive space a file will take up. A one-minute mono audio file recorded 16-bit at 44.1 kHz would take up 5 Mb of hard drive space; a similar stereo file would take up twice as much space, or 10 Mb. If you record at 24-bit, you have to multiply that number by 1.5, so that a 5-minute, mono, 24-bit file would take up 37.5 Mb (5minutes x 5 Mb/min. x 1.5).
