Hands-On Review:Rocktron Zombie Rectified Distortion Pedal
Rocktron Zombie Rectified Distortion Pedal
If you seek heavy distortion tones that can raise the dead, the Rocktron Zombie Rectified Distortion pedal is worth digging up. Designed to produce rectifier-style distortion, this pedal delivers high gain tones with tight bass and defined highs. In addition to volume, gain (called Scream), bass and treble controls, the Zombie has a unique Stare control that adjusts the symmetry offset of the distortion waveform, radically changing tonal characteristics in a style similar to a midrange sweep control. Rocktron recommends that you use the Zombie with an all-tube amp, and that's a great suggestion if you want to give new life to an older amp by making it sound more modern.
The Zombie's distortion is not subtle—this pedal will remove your head and kill your brain if you're not careful. Its tone is very heavy and gritty, with a “crushed-glass” sparkle that makes chords sound as if each note is shattering to bits The Scream control has a rather narrow range of gain— it's basically balls-out from the get-go—but I doubt that players who purchase a pedal named Zombie are looking for subtle, bluesy overdrive.
With hardcore construction and a price that won't rip your guts out, the Zombie Rectified Distortion pedal is a good choice if you need sounds that will wallop your head like a pikey with a cricket bat.
