When it comes to recording microphones, there are no real hard and fast rules about what type of microphone should be used to record a particular instrument. Opinions differ enormously and rules are made to be broken. There are however some general guidelines that we can offer. A condenser microphone typically comes in two sizes: large diaphragm & small diaphragm. Large diaphragm mics are commonly used for recording vocals, and small diaphragm mics tend to be used for "fast" high frequency instruments such as the acoustic guitar. Condenser microphones have to be handled carefully as the "guts" can be very delicate. They are designed to be very sensitive. A good condenser microphone will have a wide frequency response and will often need a power supply. Because they are highly sensitive, they cannot handle loud sounds very well. At musicians friend we have the top brands of recording microphones, including Blue Recording Microphones and MXL Recording Microphones. As with everything we sell, all our recording microphones are supported by our price & satisfaction guarantees and free standard shipping applies to all orders except heavy items.
