Comments about Meinl Aluminum Octagonal Shaker:
The thin plastic end-caps provide an annoying cricket chirp overtone. I fixed this by clever use of duct tape strips on the end-caps.
How much trouble would it have been to use aluminum endcaps? Meinl? Take a hint from LP and concentrate on quality over having 20 different shakers in your catalog.
Way overpriced for the quality and heavy. Feels like a brick in your hand.
The good: This shaker is great for 2 shaker playing style. I got sharp accents after muffling the endcaps. I use it with a soft LP Twist Shaker and the recordings sound very good.
And.. the aluminum body allows a wide range of tones depending on how hard you grip the shaker. Dynamic and musical. Cant get that with plastic or even fiberglass.
Duct tape will save this one, barely.
