SJ-100 Guitars

When the SJ-200 was first released by Gibson in 1937, it wasn't long before it was christened "The King of the Flat Tops". There was no other acoustic at that time that could match its deep, balanced and powerful sound - that is, until the SJ-100 was introduced in 1939. With its Super Jumbo body and huge projection, the SJ-100 was basically a more affordable version of the SJ-200. Its initial run didn't last long (production of the guitar came to a halt only two years later), but SJ-100 guitars are back and better than ever. In fact, it's now an acoustic-electric and boasts everything that made the original so great along with upgraded features to suit various modern applications.

In this catalog you'll find more than one SJ-100: first up, there's the Gibson 1941 SJ-100 Acoustic Electric Guitar in Vintage Sunburst. From the vintage Super Jumbo bridge to the fire strip nitrocellulose pickguard, spruce top and mahogany back and sides, the guitar itself is a stunning replica of the original. Of course, it's also equipped with a Baggs Element pickup, making this six-string an excellent blend of historic appointments and present-day technological advancements.

Secondly, there's the Gibson 2016 SJ-100 Walnut Super Jumbo Acoustic-Electric in Honeyburst. Sporting a Claro walnut back and sides, Sitka spruce top and a granadillo fingerboard and bridge, this handcrafted beauty looks and plays like a dream. Plus, it's loaded with an L.R Baggs Anthem pickup that clearly amplifies the guitar's natural sound characteristics. Simply put, Gibson has outdone themselves once again with the new 2016 SJ-100 Acoustic-Electric.

When you get right down to it, the new SJ-100 guitars are a perfect example of Gibson's knack for looking to the future while never forgetting their roots. From soaring leads to pleasant rhythms, the SJ-100 can handle it all. No doubt, either one of these SJ-100 guitars will exceed the expectations of anyone lucky enough to play it.
