I wanted to get a bigger sound in the bridge of my 97 american strat without changing the pickguard. I tried the Little 59 and I was shocked. It really sounds like a vintage PAF. I use Fender 250K pots with the tone pot having the no load feature. It works into my 70 Princeton, 57 Deluxe Clone and DSL50 Marshall too. My overdrive pedal with the Fenders is a Fulldrive or Blues Driver. My other pickups are the Dimarzio Area 58 neck and a vintage fender single coil in the middle. I tap the 59 in the notch position and it quacks really well with the true single coil in the middle. It is also very quiet. The Dimarzio Area pickups are great when you want single coil tone, but I think the Little 59 is a great pickup if you want PAF tone in the bridge. If you need more versatility from your strat then you should try this pickup. It Looks Good Too!

Seymour Duncan makes great sounding pickups. I don't worry about the sound. The problem is the case on this pickup is not the same as what is pictured. The case is good and looks solid but it does not match the exact model on the product description page. I will be pairing this pickup with another of the same model that I purchased 2 years ago. I'll get by but if I was modding a guitar for a client I would be very disappointed. Purely cosmetic complaint but it might be an issue for some.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Little 59er Pickup:

I recently picked up an older made in Taiwan Yamaha pac412 for less than a hundred at a the pawn shop. the hardware was very solid quality the guitar was beautiful. Neck is straight, tuners, frets and bridge all work great and after I set it up the action was spot on, but the pick-ups were weak. I was very happy with it cuz I just wanted a beater that played well enough so that I didn't have to keep getting out the expensive guitar USA made JTV59 when the grand kids are here. Kids can turn an expensive toy into a broken dream in seconds. I have always had a few guitars around, but when I retired and moved into a smaller place I've sold them all or given to the kids except for the JTV. I still have boxes full of pickups and parts so I decided to upgrade the sound on this guitar. At first I just put an old Seymour Duncan 59 in the bridge and it made such a difference that I wanted to cut out a bigger hole and put it in the neck and put a JB in the bridge like I used to do with my LP's. I came on musiciansfriend just looking for a push/pull pot and the JB pickup and I saw the Lil' 59 so I called up and asked about it and the sales person was so great he offered me fifteen percent off my whole order for a Black Friday deal even though it was a week before Black Friday, so I ordered both pickups and a few other little things just to take advantage of the fifteen percent deal. The pickup fit perfectly so I wouldn't have to cut the pickguard and the wiring options still let me use the coil splitting. once I got the JB in the bridge and a fender tex-mex in the middle I was set to go, but I never could have imagined how amazing it would sound. The Lil' 59 blew my mind so warm and still powerful to scream and when mixed with the middle it has this amazing tele kick to it and when I split it, it sounds nice and clean like an expensive strat. With everything I put into this guitar it still cost less than two fifty and a couple ppl at church think I spent well over a grand cuz it now became my choir guitar because its so light and easy to play and sounds beautiful with the Lil'59. I've been playing everyday again because of this guitar and Lil'59 and the JB cuz when I leave church I can go home and jam out some Priest or Pantera. People if you want a great humbucking pickup for a single slot this is it. You can coil tap so you can take a 5-way selector and turn it into a 9-way selection so you can go from church choir clean to an Iron Maiden scream. and buy at musiciansfriend they really know how to take care of you.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Little 59er Pickup:

I've had several of these over the years. They work well but especially in the middle. Don't know why but they do. I guess I like midrange crunch.

The trick to being happy with this pickup (and others like it) is to install the full set. This is so much louder than the SCs you left in there you'll never get a sweet balance.

Sure, you can lower the PU to where it loses output at the cost of chunch, and crunch is what this PU does best.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Little 59er Pickup:

I bought this model back around the year 2000 in an effort to achieve a slicing sound for leads. most rhythem playing for me is in the 1 or 4 position on a 5 way selector. For me this pick up works much better in the neck. It has a nice clean ,rounder sound for blues ,jazz,& also works well for coping a Gibson-esc sound. But for the bridge position there are many better choices for fatness, cut, and more punch in your lead position. It's a good pick-up,Un-Strat like, however better choices exist. If you're a Duncan fan, I'd suggest a 1/4 pounder. If DiMarzio ( my Choice,)try virtual heavy blues, or a red velvet. You'll be happier.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Little 59er Pickup:

Just installed it in my '90 Fender American Standard Tele. The stock bridge pickup was weak in my opinion. I am not huge fan of most stock Fender pups. I have a couple Gibsons and a couple G&Ls and both do a much better job with their stock pups than Fender IMO. So after reading a lot of reviews, I tried the lil 59. I do really like the sound with some fuzz added. I played it through my Victoria 5W with The Hoof fuzz pedal. Sounded really nice a gnarly. Without fuzz, it was ok....not great, not bad....just ok. Dirty tho it has a sound somewhere between my Gibson SG with p90's and my Les Paul with Bill Lawrenece hb-l pups. So I guess if you have only one guitar, and it's a Tele, and you want to make it sound unlike a Tele and more like a Gibson....this is a great option. But if you already have Gibsons with p90's and hbs....and love to play them.....I wouldn't recommend this pup unless you want another guitar to sound similar. I think if I had to do it over again, I'd look for a nice punchy single coil as a bridge pup vs this just for the fact that I already have that sound out of other guitars. Quality is very good....and it looks cool in my guitar. I can't say anything really negative about it other than I was hoping it was more of a real punchy single coil sound.

Best I've tried in the bridge position on my strat. Tried about 10 different pickups before I bought the lil 59er. I have dimarzio areas in neck and mid and everything else either sounded too thin and bright or just didn't have enough output. This pickup impresses me. High notes are thicker. Lows are fat and chunky. It has a nice smooth growl with some gain and great bells and chime with the area 58.

Comments about Seymour Duncan Little 59er Pickup:

Firstly, my ideal pickup in the bridge is a burstbucker 3.
I put this in my highway one strat in the bridge, along with two other tx specials. I like the way it thickens your tone, but doesn;t make it muddy like a 490T. The pickup retains an edgy-ness about it. I had it setup to be split, but when playing live (i am the only guitar player) I leave it on hubucking mode cause it really doesnt get to thick for playing tunes which normally require a single coil in teh bridge.

Do not expect anything like a gibson burstbucker or anything like that. This is just a decent pickup that will thicken up your tone so you dont sound twangy playing harder rock tunes.

Overall you can't be dissappointed with this pickup unless you expect too much.

Just had this installed yesterday on my 2008 highway strat. Very happy with it. The tone is not too fat, or muddy, but it is also not gleaming like a burstbucker (which are my favorite). Its between a traditional humbucker (ie 57 classic) and a P90. I needed this pick-ups because I needed a humbucker with tremolo. lespauls and SGs with a whammy bar are hard to find (not a fan of PRS SE, ESP, Schetcher, Ibanez). And whats great is it still sounds very Stratty. I can play Sweet Home Ala, and then the next song could be Rebel Yell. it sounds good for both situations. This will help keep my baby (les paul standard) at home, away from beer spills and stupid band mates that knock over your stuff. I gave it 4 stars since it is not a "pure nirvana" pick-up.
