Comments about Florea Recital II Cello Outfit:

I was very excited when I pulled this cello out of the box. It looked good at first glance; the body wood was solid and looked pretty decent.

Finish was an attractive reddish brown, with a little dust under the finish where the back and sides meet. I play guitar, am learning fiddle, and thought a cello would be fun, so I wanted a reasonably-priced instrument that was generally solid but might need a professional setup. A little sawdust under the finish wouldn't be a deal-breaker.

However, installing the bridge revealed issues that couldn't be fixed with a simple setup.

None of the strings could be played because they were touching the fingerboard, which bowed upward over the body.

The string spacing at the nut was far too wide - by about 1/4" - so the C string was far from the beveled fingerboard at the nut. The string spacing at the bridge was far too narrow - again by about 1/4" - forcing the outer strings more tightly against the fingerboard.

I took it to a local luthier for a final diagnosis, and he advised me to send it back - it just needed too much work.

Cannot comment on whether this one was typical, as this model was sold out when I called to return it.

The Musicians Friend representative who assisted with the return was very helpful, and I exchanged it towards a Florea Prodigy cello with which I'm pleased.

Comments about Florea Recital II Cello Outfit:

After reading good reviews about this model, I placed an order with all excitement. It reached in 5 days, BROKEN. Fine, that can happen while shipping. Sent it back, asked them to KINDLY check thoroughly before sending a new one. Got a new one after 2 weeks, BROKEN AGAIN. That too from the same spot, in fact it was the same Cello they sent first and tried to fix the broken part, which came out again. I can't express how bad I feel seeing Musician friend doing this. I have requested for refund, and I hope they do it without deducting any silly amount as their worse service charge.
        Lost faith, big time.
Never ordering anything from here again.

Comments about Florea Recital II Cello Outfit:

This is my first cello. I thought it would be fun to learn to play a cello. It is a nice quality cello for a beginner and for the money. I am very pleased with it. My daughter who plays the violin is playing this cello now and is enjoying it.

The used cello I bought had the wrong size nut and bridge with it. But Musiciansfriend was good about the exchange.

            Works for me.

Comments about Florea Recital II Cello Outfit:

Used to play as a young adult and now taking it up again. I wanted something inexpensive to begin with. This cello definitely fits the bill. It works. Sounds decent. Holding a tune is a bit challenging though. I just got it so hopefully that changes as I break it in. Otherwise it's a nice instrument for beginners only.

just what I was looking for.

Comments about Florea Recital II Cello Outfit:

I am a long time musician (mainly piano) who wanted to take up the cello. I wanted a cello that I could learn on before I spent thousands so I would know what I was looking for before making such an investment. My big concern with this cello was that it would be more of a toy than an instrument and I worried that I should spend some more money to make sure I got something playable. I'm glad I didn't. This cello fits the bill perfectly. It sounds good, it's sturdy, it keeps its tune, and it's fun to play. This is a fantastic product for someone that wants to test the cello waters. I'm very happy with my purchase.

            A decent enough Cello

            By Bobtec

Comments about Florea Recital II Cello Outfit:

I've purchased Floria before. Floria & Bellafina are pretty good products. This one was made in China. Good resonance, good clean sound. You'll want to get a good dark rosin for breaking in the bow. The gig bag is a joke. I mean, you're gonna tote a somewhat fragile instrument in a nylon gig bag? Get real!!! If you're going to be traveling with it, plan on getting a hardshell case. If not, a good solid sturdy stand will do.
