Comments about Bellafina Model 50 Double Bass Outfit:

I've owned this bass for about 2 years and use it for playing blue grass and jazz, in arco and pizzicato styles. I've been playing bass for about 18 years and started on an electric bass. I've wanted an upright for years and finally pulled the trigger on this gem in 2011. I've used it in multiple venues and it has a rich full sound that everyone I play with comments on. I use a K&K bass max piezo pickup and a mic to run it through an amp or soundboard. This combination really brings out its rich natural tone. The strings it comes with are garbage, and I traded them for a set of D'addarios. The color of the body is definitely more red than in the picture, but beautiful nonetheless. The E-string groove on the nut was a bit oversized and led to an obnoxious string buzz, but this was easily remedied with a piece of business card at a restaurant I played at. From what I understand, and this is my first and only upright, all uprights need some setting up when you get them. It took me about 3 hours to get the action to my liking, but wouldn't ever consider selling my bass. This bass is by far, the best investment I've made in my playing career and a great intro to the upright world.

Comments about Bellafina Model 50 Double Bass Outfit:

I was torn between this bass and the Engelhardt ES9. I finally settled on this one because of the price, and I got a discount off of that. So I'm glad I got it when I did. The tone is rich and deep. The intonation is excellent. It stays in tune. It's also very resonant and loud. I did have to set up the bridge and change the end pin, but that was all it needed. I'll still get the Engelhardt eventually, because I always wanted that one, but this was an excellent choice as well. (I kinda wish I had gotten the Blonde one though).

        excellent instrument

Comments about Bellafina Model 50 Double Bass Outfit:

this is a very elegant instrument. first of all, I'd like to comment on musiciansfriends's customer service, which was excellent. I initially tried to order form WWBW.com which was CRAP! the instrument has a redder color than the picture shows whic is a charming feature. the sound is way better than I expected. I had just hoped for something to learn bass on. my teacher plays on an englehardt. he made a point to tell me how nice-looking it was, and how it sounded better than his instrument. it is very durable, and didn't need much work done when it arrived. the soundpost was standing, and so was the bridge. the strings aren't bad, so im using them until I can get some better ones on it. over all, very good! Im very impressed with it!

        Nice Bass!

Comments about Bellafina Model 50 Double Bass Outfit:

Took a long time to ship due to a backorder, but arrived in good shape. The soundpost was in place, and I was surprised to find that the strings and bridge were also in place (though nothing close to being actually 'set up'). The bow is french, and is trash. I bought a german bow. I suppose that's a personal preference. The ebony fingerboard is nice. The machine heads are functioning properly and the bass stays in tune, depending on the weather. The strings are not the best, but I'll play them until they die completely. In other words, I didn't feel an emergency string changing was in order. I am getting work done on the bridge next week because I have the adjusters all the way down and it's still too high for certain applications. Great tone. Overall, I am very satisfied and would do it all over again. And, like the reviewer before me, I believe this bass to be matchless in it's price range.

Hope your not in a hurry

Comments about Bellafina Model 50 Double Bass Outfit:

A redder color than the picture shows but she really does have the flame thing going on nicely. I know she?s just a laminate but it still is nice to have a pretty bass. The ebony is a super nice feature at this price. The neck still feels thick enough for being a thinner one than normal but it is in fact slightly thinner than normal. She sounds good; sounds like an upright to me. Not as loud as some others. The stock strings felt ok, but I have replaced them with Spirocores. The keys seem to be doing the job just fine. It took a few tries for the tuning to stabilize, but now she holds tuning real good. The neck is developing a buzz on the E string at the B position but I will get it professionally set up some day.The bag is par, and I have upgraded to a better I got to say I actually liked the bow better than a much pricier range one I have.I have seen uprights three times the price that I do not like as well, so for me it was worth the wait as I do not know it?s equal at this range at all.
