I first ordered the SC3EL model. It was a beautifull violin and it sounded great too. I bought it because of the acoustic/electric option. I sent it back because the sound post was loose when it arrived and it didn't include a chin rest. I was planning on getting the same violin but they were back ordered so I decided to go with the Model 2 instead. I'm glad I did. I love the sound and feel of this instrument. It is easier to play and has a warmer sound. I decided I would rather have a better sounding instrument than an electric option. The Model 2 isn't as pretty as the SC3EL. It has a hand made finished look, with a few very minor imperfections, where as the SC3EL has a manufactured 'perfect' look. The Model 2 arrived with a bow that was completely warped and when I started tightening the hairs they popped out. I called Musicians Friend and they were extremely polite and helpful. They replaced my bow with another Brazilwood bow. I was very pleased with the customer service and friendly rep (Brandon). Overall, either violin is a great buy but if I had to do it again I would still get the Model 2 because of the great sound. I've been a satisfied customer of Musician's Friend for many many years.

Nice concept and good features, but fails in quality. Nice case, bow I do not know about as I never took it out of the box. Setup was good.
It took me all of five minutes to decide to send ths back. First, I noticed a void in the finish just above the f hole, right where it's most noticeable. There were also several scuffs along both f holes. THen I flipped it over and the finish was cracked across the entire back. If that wasn't enough, there was another series of cracks in a circular pattern across the whole perimeter of the back.

This is a sloppy finish job at best. At this price point, and considering all the other options that look so much nicer, Silver Creek became a brand to avoid for me. I'm still shopping for a replacement and a bity leary about buying "sight unseen," as this looked nothing like the quality represented in the photos.

It was back in the box in minutes and on the truck back to MF the next morining.
I won't give it lowest rating here because it did sound nice. Not outstanding, but nice.

Comments about Silver Creek Model 2 Violin 4/4 Outfit:

This was purchased for my Middle school student. The teacher said the violin was nice and had good tone. The only problem that we had was when the tip of her bow snapped and broke off where the strings are attached. her teacher recommended trying to return it or having the bow replaced because we've only had it for a 2 months.

        Great Violin!

        By Dave Larson

        from Idaho

Comments about Silver Creek Model 2 Violin 4/4 Outfit:

2x nicer than the one we were renting for our daughter for her orchestra and 1/2 the price. Vry well finished and a wonderful, warm tone. The soundpost seems to favor the higher notes, but that can be adjusted by any good music shop to your individual preferences. The case is very roomy for accessories, music, etc.

We were going to upgrade her other rental instrument with the composite strings and a better bow, and this came already with those upgrades, as well as 4 fine tuners.

Also the case came with a tube for additional strings, which was a nice, unexpected feature!

Daughter is thrilled and the instrument is an excellent value.

        GREAT BUY

        By Anonymous

Comments about Silver Creek Model 2 Violin 4/4 Outfit:

I have had this violin for about 4 years now. Took great care of it and it sounds really warm and even. Some violins have that nasal sound that i hate, but this one has the warm tone that really feels right. A great buy for the price, it can stand up to much overpriced violins when played with lots of vibrato.Never had a problem with anything, no cracks, no buzzing, rattling etc. The finish/varnish is beautiful on the violin. The bow is very well made. The bow puts on a wonderful reddish hue when put under bright lighting (stage lighting/bright fluorescent). Only problem that i have right now is the case, the outer pocket is fraying alot but thats probably because of the wear and tear that goes on in a students life. Anyways this is a great buy for those who want a fairpriced violin that sounds great. Im going to be using this violin for the rest of my school music career probably. GREAT BUY AGAIN.

        Solid Buy for Beginner

Comments about Silver Creek Model 2 Violin 4/4 Outfit:

Violin sounded HORRIBLE straight out of the case. Terrible squeals on the 'A' string. Played with it a bit and found it did not come with a soundpost. After installing one it played wonderfully. Nice even tone and very comfortable. Highly recommended for a beginner violinist on a budget.

        Great violin/fiddle

Comments about Silver Creek Model 2 Violin 4/4 Outfit:

I love this fiddle. It has a strange yet beautiful deep tone. It's extremely easy to play. I have been playing the fiddle for 4 years, and have played a small hanfull of very expensive ($1,000-3,000) one and this one is by far my favorite. It has a very nice hand painted look. I love it.
