OVERVIEW

Designed for and with guitar legend Danny Gatton.

The dual blade T-Style pickups, inspired by Danny Gatton, created a new model of high-end replacement pickups as opposed to those that were merely variations on established designs or basic repair parts. Originally designed for Danny (and with Danny testing every step of the way) they have become the first choice of professional Tele players worldwide. The tone of these pickups can be described as absolutely vintage in character, but with greatly expanded fidelity. The lows, mids, and highs are all equal in strength, eliminating the thin, or "tinny" sound that is often a problem with Tele-styled guitars.

The T-Neck is remarkable in that it can be adjusted so that its output is actually equal to the T-Bridge, thus solving the age-old Tele player's complaint: huge output differences between the bridge and neck pickups. While these pickups can be adjusted to greatly exceed the output level of stock pickups, the authentic Tele twang and snap is maintained, and any kind of noise, be it hum, hiss, or squeal, is completely eliminated.

The T-Bridge features the unique "staggered-blade" design, common to all Joe Barden single-coil-sized bridge pickups for Strats and Teles. The staggered dual blade ensures balanced response on the outer strings. These pickups are the best imaginable for the instrument that originally defined the solid body electric guitar.

T-Style pickups fit standard Tele body routs and require no modifications to the instrument. They utilize 4 conductor shielded cable to allow for any possible wiring combination and are supplied with wiring diagrams download and mounting hardware to facilitate installation.

A few words from Joe:
"Tthe T-Style, S-Style, HB and HBTwo/Tone models that you have known over the years are here, unchanged, and available once again. These innovative, first-of-their-kind, pickups will continue to be made the same way you play...by hand...with the same commitment to quality and consistency that has made them legendary since I started making them in 1982.

As our name implies, Joe Barden Engineering is more than just great pickups. Continued innovation will result in other new and exciting products which we will introduce as we continue to build our company and your trust.

The memory of my dearest friend and constant inspiration, Danny Gatton, remains ingrained in the spirit of the new company, Joe Barden Engineering. I will continue to to make Danny proud of what is being produced by Joe Barden Engineering, using all that he taught me, so I can continue to bring to you what Danny himself described as "the best pickups on the planet."

Comments about JBE Pickups (Barden) Danny Gatton T-Bridge Tele Pickup:

I was worried that this pickup would not live up to the hype and wouldn't be worth it's very steep price.
I had two other hum cancelling bridge pups in my guitar, and neither satisfied. The first pup (LIL 59) was too dark and loud. The second pup (GFS Neovin) was too gritty and lost fidelity as soon as you turned the volume down, even a little.
The Barden is amazing! Power and clarity with low resistance (@4.5K) guessing the ceramic magnet is very powerful. The volume and tone controls on my git work really well now (500K) and I get everything from the icepick in the forehead to rolled off jazz tone. With overdrive, I can feel the body vibrating, and even though the signal is clear, the guitar is giving me controllable feedback. Great pickup! Worth every buck!

Best Tele Pickup I've Tried

Pros

  • Fantastic Clean Sound

Cons

  • Bad With Distortion

Best Uses

Comments about JBE Pickups (Barden) Danny Gatton T-Bridge Tele Pickup:

I used this pickup in a partscaster with a rosewood neck. The pickup has the best clean sound I've ever heard. Some people might find it to have too much treble, but for me, it's exactly what I was looking for. It pairs very well with Fender amps. Handles mild overdrive such as EHX Soul Food perfectly.

It does not do distortion well. This is not what I would call a low output pickup, so it surprised me a bit. I think it's just the frequency response - I tried it with a few pedals, and most sound bad. Anyway, if you're planning to use heavy distortion go with the Modern version of this pickup. Otherwise, this pickup is incredible (I also have an American Deluxe Tele, and this pickup blows the Fender N-3 out of the water).

Comments about JBE Pickups (Barden) Danny Gatton T-Bridge Tele Pickup:

I gave a less than glowing review of the Neck PU version. Hi quality, but too flat across the Frequency range for me. Couldn't get that dark smokey sound that Tele Jazz players love. The bridge PU is a whole different experience. The full range allows any tone you want, voiced with clarity and authority. Bright as heck, never ice-picky. Roll off the tone to dial in that perfect blues or rock tone. Keep it bright for exceptional twang. The Joe Barden D. Gatton bridge PU blows away any stock PU. It blends very well with the Humbucker I chose for the neck position. My Fender Tele Standard is now capable of any style you could play with an electric guitar, well not Metal maybe, I'm not an expert there. For all I know it might even work for that. I use this guitar for Jazz, Classic Rock, Blues, Psychedelic and Experimental music. A real chameleon, not a one trick pony. I have plenty of great guitars. D'Aquisto Archtops, early 70's SG, Strat, Guilds. This one is just plain fun. This PU is really pleasing. Do yourself a favor and open up that bridge position sound. Useful as can be and professional quality and tone.
