Mojave Audio

A low-noise tube mic with superb performance and warm, full-bodied sound.

The Mojave MA-200 is a large diaphragm, vacuum tube condenser microphone with a fixed cardioid pattern. Utilizing hand-selected 3-micron capsules, high-quality Jensen audio transformers and military-grade JAN 5840 vacuum tubes, the MA-200 condenser Mic performs at a level reminiscent of some of the best loved classic condenser microphones. The power supply for the MA-200 condenser mic can be set for 115V and 230V, 50 or 60 Hz, through an internal switch (100V is also available).

Born to a lineage of fine microphone designs by David Royer, one of an elite group of microphone designers who know that music and sound are inseparable from electronic design, the MA-200 gives warm, full-bodied reproductions of vocals and instruments, with none of the shrillness and high frequency distortion artifacts that are often encountered with modern condenser microphones. Each Mojave MA-200 microphone, power supply and cable set is burned in for 24 hours, carefully tested and evaluated, then packaged in its protective case-within-a-case.

Comments about Mojave Audio MA-200 Large Diaphragm Tube Condenser Microphone:

This mic came with a lot of really good reviews. I wasn't disappointed-It made vocals and acoustic guitar standout and sound high quality. I want to redo all my prior recordings with this mic and will certainly have it as my go to mic in my locker. It is a professional mic and if you are looking to elevate your home studio with one piece of equipment, this is it. This is one of my first reviews in years- I love this mic that much. Thank you Mojave! Next I'm getting the MA201fet and going to use that on acoustic guitar along with the MA 200-

    I don't like this microphone

    By James Nisky

    from Los Angeles

Comments about Mojave Audio MA-200 Large Diaphragm Tube Condenser Microphone:

Useless for most applications and highly expensive. Average quality.
Single pattern, no pads or filters which is fine with me. NOS tube is a cool inlcusion. Build quality looks average. Power-source and proprietary cable look average at best.
I used this mic on acoustic guitar with awful results. It makes the guitar sound thin, weak, and lifeless with no character. There is no shimmer or shine to the sound. What sounds like a beautiful swept chord in the room this mic turns into something ugly and useless. This mic is the exact opposite of an 'airy' sound. It made an electric guitar sound thin and tinny. Again it was lifeless with no character. It is an ok sound at best. On vocals it was average at best. There was no air or shimmer to the vocals. It just doesn't have any interesting character. The best use may have been on a bass amp. On a whole the mic sounds uninteresting, lifeless, dry, and somewhat brittle. I wouldn't want this used on any track of mine except maybe the bass amp if there were no other options. This mic was particularly useless for acoustic guitar. Maybe a rapper would like this for vocals? It is clear an quiet. If you are wanting a rich sounding mic with a cool character or vibe this is not the mic. At no point did the sound sources ever sound like they were being 'electrified'. I wouldn't quite say the mic is transparent because if it were then it would reproduce sounds accurately instead of making them sound thinner and weaker than they really did.
This mic is what i consider highly expensive - which would be ok if it did several things fabulously - but it doesn't. From my experience most sources sound average at best, at that is being generous.

    Phenomenal tube mic

    By Matthew Bernstein

Comments about Mojave Audio MA-200 Large Diaphragm Tube Condenser Microphone:

This is a fantastic mic for the money. I use this mic into an Apogee Duet2 to record my wife who is currently working on her second CD. Our producer used a $12k telefuken on her for the first CD and this mic has many of the same characteristics. When chosing a mic it was between this and a Neumann TLM 103 - so glad we chose the Mojave. Buy it, you won't be sorry!

I record rap and RnB, so vocals are My main concern. The Mojave Audio MA-200 Large Diaphragm Tube Condenser Microphone delivers a stellar performance with every voice thrown at It. I run it through a Focusrite 220, digitaly into an Apogee Ensemble, and into Logic of course. If Your looking for One Great Mic under a G,You have found it.
