Comments about Hipshot GT2 Electric Xtender:

I bought this to replace a GT-1 I purchased almost 15 years ago , for my MIJ Telecaster .The knobs being the only difference , I am confident the GT-2 will perform as well , long term . The GT-1 still works flawlessly , I just moved it to my acoustic and now I have matching knobs on the Tele . Great product , especially if you have a singer that lives in D ………Brett

Bought the GT2 for my mid 90s MexiStrat.
Holds tune with proper set up.

BUY new strings and PROPERLY string your guitar!

    use NUT GREASE

use Vaseline or lithium grease the contact points of the GT2 to help eliminate possibility of mechanical binding or roughness.

Comments about Hipshot GT2 Electric Xtender:

Hey this thing works great once you figure out how to attach it. 4 stars because the instructions could have been better. You have to focus on where the base plate will need to be screwed in. After you get that placement you can swivel the rest into place. Instructions mentioned removing the adjacent tuner and that helped. Stringing and tuning werent bad as I've seen mentioned. You have to do it by hand and not use a string winder. Once attached the instructions worked well for the set up

    Use Caution!?

    By

    from El Paso, TX

Comments about Hipshot GT2 Electric Xtender:

I have several of these xtenders...and YES, I've put them on everything - seriously! Here's the catch: on the headstocks that are too thick, you really have to decide if it's worth it to take out wood in the back of the headstock to recess the baseplate. Call me crazy, but after practicing on "lesser models" I put one on the Les Paul Studio in that fashion, and it ROCKS! As for flicking back and forth between E and D - you MUST pull the tension on the string and then tune to E and flick back and forth a few times...and then repeat the process - several times. However, once you've got the "D" tuned to the same gauge 6th string - it actually stays in tune pretty well.

    Review

Comments about Hipshot GT2 Electric Xtender:

In spite of zero communication back from Hipshot and an extremely poorly written "installation manual" I was able to get the GT2 installed on my Telecaster. The "instructions" were obviously written by someone who was very familiar with the GT2 but lacked both the ability to write and the ability to describe the installation for someone who had never seen one of these contraptions installed. I took a risk and drilled a hole in my precious tele and got lucky and it was in the right place. Not sure how they can have a good product but lousy documentation and communication. Finally I can flip a switch which drops my E to D and play Moby Dick!

    hipshot GT2

Comments about Hipshot GT2 Electric Xtender:

If you play music with lots of drop D tunings and dont have time to tune between songs during live shows, this is the way to go. Installed on my tele very easily. And have had it 5 years with no problems, follow tuning directions they give you, and also apply a small amount of lithium grease on nut when changing strings, this is extremly important to reduce friction or hangup of string when dropping down string, great piece of hardware if used properly.

    Impractical Gimmick

    By

    from Orlando, FL

Comments about Hipshot GT2 Electric Xtender:

My wife bought me a Hipshot GT2 for my birthday a few years ago. The install was easy enough and took roughly 10-15 minutes with the aid of a drill and screwdriver. That's about the only good thing I can say about this product. Tuning it was a pain in the *** and it was prone to going out if tune after a few "flicks," resulting in the additional pain in the *** of retuning it. I couldn't rely on it enough to use in a live setting and, eventually, just left it in the locked position and drop tuned the old fashioned way leaving me with a expensive machine head on my 6th string. It's a nice gimmick, but costs more money and trouble than it's worth.
